Danilo da Silva scores twice to lead Railsplitters past No. 12 Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lincoln Memorial used a pair of Danilo da Silva goals Wednesday night to knock off No. 12 Lees-McRae (5-1-1) and remain undefeated. The Railsplitters (4-0-2) picked up their second top-25 win of the year and are undefeated through six games for the second time in three years. The win snapped the Bobcats' five-game win streak.

The Railsplitters were outshot for the first time this season and allowed a season-high 20 shots. Lees-McRae also held a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.

The Bobcats opened the scoring with a 22nd-minute goal from Agustin Ortiz.

Da Silva tied the score right before halftime on a shot that caromed off the post and in. He also added an insurance goal in the 80th minute that proved to be the game winner for his third career two-goal game. The junior forward now has six goals in six games this season with three multi-point efforts.

Miguel Reis put the Railsplitters up 2-1 with his first career goal in the 49th minute. He collected a pass from Felipe de Sousa and placed a perfect strike into the upper corner.

Nathan Watt cut the Railsplitter lead down to 3-2 in the 88th minute, but it was too little too late for the Bobcats. Lees-McRae was unable to put up another shot.

Caleb Cothrin tied a career high with eight saves in another winning effort. He has recorded eight saves in back-to-back games.

Six yellow cards were issued after the 70th minute as the game became more physical. The Railsplitters were called for 21 fouls, though it was the Bobcats that received four of those cards. Lincoln Memorial has been called for at least 20 fouls in three of its past four matches.
