Lady Railsplitters fall to hot-hitting Trojans, 3-0

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lady Railsplitters (6-6, 3-5 SAC) couldn't slow down the Anderson Trojans (12-3, 6-1 SAC) in a straight-set loss in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Mary Mars Gym. Lincoln Memorial, who was swept in a home weekend series for the first time since 2014 after losing to Francis Marion on Friday night, fell by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-15.

Powered by Marissa Mitter's 11 kills, Anderson racked up 38 kills over the three-set contest on a .281 attack percentage. The visitors hit a sizzling .357 and .300 in the first two sets before cooling off just a bit in the third (.194). On the other end of the spectrum, Lincoln Memorial mustered just 23 kills on a .133 clip.

Kiera Holland, Tone Gill and Rylee Storms led the way with five kills apiece, while Storms finished with a team-best .383 attack percentage. Kai Wesemann and Alicia Kessler chipped in three kills each. Olivia Brock led the team with 14 assists, while Erica Whiteaker posted a team-best 13 digs.

Along with Mitter's 11 kills, Rachel Burts had nine on a .538 attack percentage, while Serena Jackson and Kathryn Hughes had six apiece. Emily Conlin amassed a match-high 33 assists. Jayln Knight and Emily Conard tied for the team lead with nine digs apiece.

The loss snapped Lincoln Memorial's four-game winning streak against Anderson, who defeated the Lady Railsplitters for the first time since November 2014 and picked up its sixth all-time win in the series.

Anderson dominated almost every aspect of the match, as the three sets featured just four combined lead changes and nine ties. The third was the most competitive with five ties and two lead changes, but the Lady Railsplitters accounted for just five kills that frame on a .000 attack percentage.

The Lady Railsplitters hit the road next weekend for South Atlantic Conference matches against Queens and Wingate, beginning with a 7 p.m. match versus the Royals on Friday, October 6 in Charlotte, N.C.
