Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Railsplitters fall in straight sets to No. 4 Hawaii

LMU will make its home debut on Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team (0-2) fell in straight sets for the second straight day of the Grow the Game Challenge at Lipscomb University's Allen Arena. No. 4 Hawai'i (5-0) cruised past the overmatched Railsplitters with set scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-15.

The Rainbow Warriors attack totaled 38 kills and hit .423 compared to LMU's 29 kills and .105 hitting percentage. The Railsplitters committed 20 attack errors to Hawai'i's eight. Hawai'i also held a 12-4 edge in blocks and connected on all seven of the game's service aces.

Evan Cory again led the Railsplitters with 11 kills and a .308 hitting percentage. All other Railsplitters combined to hit just .017. AJ Risavy led all players with 23 assists, while Logan Kerley paced LMU with seven digs. Marcus Molina took part in all four of the team's blocks.

Brandon Rattray led all players with 14 kills and eight digs. He was also one of four Rainbow Warriors to hit at least .500. Colton Cowell added 11 kills and five blocks. Jackson Van Eekeren racked up 18 assists, while Joe Worsley pitched in 16.

Cory started the match with a kill, but Hawai'i took 12 of the next 16 points to jump ahead 12-5. The teams then mostly traded points the rest of the way, as the Rainbow Warriors never expanded on that seven-point lead. Rattray connected on six kills in the set, while Cory had five for LMU. The Railsplitters' .179 hitting percentage was their best of any set but was no match for Hawai'i's ridiculous .522 mark.

Hawai'i led for the entirety of set two and led by as many as 12 points. The Rainbow Warriors again hit efficiently and matched their game total with a .423 mark. Cowell recorded five kills in the set. Molina notched all three of his kills to pace the Railsplitters.

The third set proved to be the most competitive with five ties and two lead changes. This all happened early on, as the final tie was at six apiece. LMU took its largest lead of the day at 5-3 but was outscored 22-10 the rest of the way. Rattray added five more kills in the frame, while Cory recorded four. The Railsplitters committed nine attack errors and hit .000 for the set. Hawai'i also recorded its lowest hitting percentage of the game at .318.

The Railsplitters next make their home debut Friday, January 19 against Alderson Broaddus at 7 p.m. The team returns to action at Mary Mars Gymnasium Saturday the 20th at 1 p.m. against Brewton-Parker.
