Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Railsplitters' winning streak snapped by hot-hitting Tornado, 3-0

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The visiting King Tornado (5-2) snapped Lincoln Memorial University's men's volleyball's three-game win streak and extended its own win streak to four with a straight-set sweep of the Railsplitters (3-3) Tuesday night at Mary Mars Gymnasium. LMU lost by set scores of 23-25, 16-25 and 19-25.

The Tornado attack racked up 41 kills to Lincoln Memorial's 26. King's attack percentage was also .333, while the Railsplitters were held to a season-low .088.

The Railsplitters had no answer for Jeff Sprayberry and Kiel Bell, who combined for more kills than the entire LMU team. Sprayberry accumulated 14 on a .458 attack percentage, while Bell added 13 while hitting .429. Sprayberry also added two service aces and a game-high eight digs. Nick Drooker assisted on 38 of the team's kills.

Evan Cory tied for the team lead with season lows of seven kills and a .050 attack percentage. Jordan Walley pitched in a career-high seven kills. Pedro Carvalho added six on a season-high .626 attack percentage and totaled five blocks. AJ Risavy provided 26 assists.

King led most of the first set save for a pair of one-point LMU leads. The Tornado jumped ahead 7-3 out of the gate, but LMU rallied to take a 12-11 lead. The Railsplitters' only other lead was 16-15. The teams were tied for the final time at 17 apiece before King went on a 6-1 run to take control. Lincoln Memorial was able to cut the deficit to 24-23, but Bell clinched the set with his sixth kill.

The Railsplitters took two of the first three points of the second set, but King soon took over. Beginning with an 8-7 lead, the Tornado went on a 12-2 run—including an 8-0 stretch—that put the game away. The Railsplitters responded by scoring six of the next seven points, but the deficit was too great to overcome. LMU was undone by sloppy play, as the team committed six attack errors as well as a setting and service error during King's big run.

Lincoln Memorial led by as many as three in the final set and led more than halfway at 15-14, but the team could not keep up with King's hot hitting. The Tornado hit .476 for the set and were led by Sprayberry's seven kills. Meanwhile, the Railsplitters had their worst-hitting set of the match at .048. After LMU took a 15-13 lead, King finished the game on a 12-4 run.

The Railsplitters will next hit the road for weekend matches in Quincy, Ill. and St. Charles, Mo. against Quincy and Lindenwood. The Quincy match is set for 8 p.m. Friday, and the Lindenwood one will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday.
