Notes on Christian Brothers

- The Bucs opened their 2018-19 season with back-to-back wins against Central State, defeating the Marauders 78-56 on the road on Friday before cruising to an 86-76 win at home on Sunday.
- 6-9 senior forward Adam Dieball was the star of the opening weekend, averaging a near triple-double with 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game on 52 percent shooting. He finished just two assists shy of a triple-double in the season opener with 15 points, 10 boards, eight assists and four blocks.
- Three other players are pitching in double figures for Christian Brothers. Joe Laravie is contributing 16.5 points and 5.5 assists per game, while Brad Miller and Jacob Lyons are averaging 12.0 points per game apiece.
- As a team, Christian Brothers is shooting 51 percent from the floor and averaging 82 points per game. The Bucs have also connected on 23 of their 63 three-point tries for a 37 percent mark.
- Central State struggled offensively against the Christian Brothers defense, combining to shoot just 40 percent from the field and 32 percent from three while averaging just 66 points per game.
- The Bucs went 21-9 last season, logging the program's highest win total since going 25-7 during the 2011-12 campaign.
- Mike Nienaber is in his 20th season as the head coach of the Christian Brothers men's basketball program. In that time, he has compiled a program-record 334 wins while leading the Bucs to five NCAA tournament berths.
- Christian Brothers has turned the ball over just nine times per game. On the flip side, the Bucs have handed out an average of 21 assists per game through the opening weekend of the season.

Last Time Out

- The Railsplitters opened the season in rather dominant fashion, dismantling Clayton State 82-61 in a rematch of last season's Southeast Regional semifinals on Friday in Aiken, S.C. LMU really shined in the first half, holding the Lakers to 23 percent shooting to establish a 51-23 halftime cushion.
- Five players hit double figures for LMU in that win, led by Cornelius Taylor's 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Taylor scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half. Kamaran Calhoun added 11 points, while Anthony Brown had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
- The Railsplitters couldn't build off that performance on Saturday, following up their win over Clayton State with a 79-68 loss to USC Aiken. Lincoln Memorial shot just 38 percent and went 10-for-37 from three-point range as the Pacers led nearly from start to finish.
- Taylor again led all players with a game-high 25 points, but the redshirt-junior went 9-for-26 from the floor and 4-for-16 from three while turning it over six times. Cameron Henry was the only other player in double figures with 14 points, albeit on 5-for-13 shooting.

Getting on Track Offensively

- The Railsplitters struggled mightily on the offensive end of the court last weekend, shooting just 38 percent from the field and a dreadful 29 percent from three-point territory. In addition to that, Lincoln Memorial went 16-for-27 at the free-throw line in the two games combined for a 59 percent clip.
- On top of the team's shooting woes, LMU turned the ball over an average of 16.5 times in the two games, including 17 turnovers in the loss to USC Aiken that resulted in 22 Pacer points.

Better on the Defensive Glass

- The Railsplitters allowed far too many second-chance opportunities this past weekend, conceding 17 offensive boards against Clayton State and 16 against USC Aiken.
- Despite that, LMU still managed to outrebound Clayton State 57-51 in total while falling just short against USC Aiken, who posted a 50-47 rebounding edge.

Lockdown Defense

- In spite of their team-wide offensive woes, the Railsplitters were solid on the defensive end of the floor, holding their opponents to 32 percent shooting and a 30 percent effort from three-point territory.
- LMU was far too foul prone, though, allowing its opponents to attempt an average of 27 free throws per game. By contrast, the Railsplitters averaged only 13.5 free throws per contest.

Quick Turnaround

- The Railsplitters won't have long to recover from Saturday's lengthy road trip as they return to action on Tuesday night to open Tex Turner Arena with a matchup against Paine.

Series History

- Saturday will serve as the first meeting between Lincoln Memorial and Christian Brothers since 1977. The two teams are tied 1-1 in the all-time series.
- It will mark the Railsplitters' first-ever trip to Memphis, Tenn., to face the Bucs as the two teams played in Harrogate in 1977 and Nashville in 1970.
