Last Time Out
The Railsplitters were sensational again on Wednesday night at Tex Turner Arena, opening SAC play by dismantling rival Carson-Newman 90-68. That victory also extended Lincoln Memorial's conference winning streak to 35 games – a streak that dates back to January 2017.
The Railsplitters never trailed, opened on a 9-0 run and led by as many as 35 points to defeat the Eagles for the fifth straight time and improve to 106-102 in the all-time series.
Lincoln Memorial was efficient offensively, shooting 47 percent for the game despite missing seven of its last eight shot attempts. However, a lockdown defensive effort keyed the win, as the Railsplitters held the Eagles, who entered the game ranked fifth nationally in field-goal percentage offense, to 34.5 percent shooting.
Anthony Brown led the way with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go along with eight assists, six rebounds, three steals and no turnovers.
Cornelius Taylor added 18 points as well, while
Alex Dahling went 5-for-9 from three to score 17 points.
Taylor Closing in on Milestone
After Wednesday night's 18-point effort, redshirt-junior
Cornelius Taylor is now only 26 points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark for his career. He would be the 30th player in program history to hit that mark.
Taylor has led Lincoln Memorial in scoring in four of its six games this season, including a 25-point outburst against USC Aiken, a 23-point showing at Christian Brothers and a 22-point effort versus Clayton State. The Claxton, Ga., native is fourth in the SAC in scoring with 18.8 points per game.
Brown Balling
Anthony Brown's tenure with Lincoln Memorial got off to a slow start, but the junior Indian River State College transfer has strung together some impressive performances of late.
Against Virginia-Wise, Brown fell an assist shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. The game before that, he scored 14 points with five assists in the win over Paine. On Wednesday, Brown notched a season-high 18 points with eight assists.
Brown leads the team with 23 assists total and is contributing 10.0 points per game while shooting 60.5 percent from the floor.
Home Cooking
The Railsplitters have been downright scary at Tex Turner Arena this season.
Lincoln Memorial opened its home schedule with a 108-58 demolition of Paine in which they shot a season-high 52 percent and hit a season-best 18 three-pointers. The Railsplitters then posted their second-highest field-goal percentage (47.3) and second-most threes (13) of the season in Wednesday's win over Carson-Newman.
LMU is scoring an average of 99.0 points per game at home on 50 percent shooting compared to 76.7 points per game on 41 percent shooting on the road.
This isn't anything new, though. Since the start of the 2015-16 campaign, the Railsplitters are a combined 49-2 in Harrogate. LMU has not lost a regular-season home game since December 17, 2016.
Deadeye Dahling
Sophomore sharpshooter
Alex Dahling has reached double figures in back-to-back games, going a combined 11-for-21 from three-point territory over that span. Dahling has hit the seventh-most three-pointers in the SAC this season with 18 total. He is contributing 9.8 points per game on a 44 percent mark from deep.
