Adam Golia's record-breaking performance leads Railsplitters past Palm Beach Atlantic 21-8

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – For the second consecutive match to open the 2018 campaign, senior Adam Golia shattered the program record for points while also breaking the program record for goals as the Railsplitters (2-0) coasted to a 21-8 victory to spoil Palm Beach Atlantic's (0-1) program debut on Thursday evening.

Just five days removed from setting the program points record with five goals and four assists in a win at Hampton, Golia, who was selected as the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for that effort, one-upped himself.

The Victoria, British Columbia native racked up nine goals and added four assists to absolutely obliterate the program record for points he set in that match against Hampton. His nine goals also surpassed teammate Dylan Neisler's previous program record of seven.

Golia's 13 points are the fourth-most in the history of NCAA Division II men's lacrosse and likely a South Atlantic Conference record. The nine goals are tied for the 14th-most in Division II history and also match the SAC record set by Catawba's John Scheich (2013) and Wingate's Ryan Vogrig (2015). Remarkably, Golia scored his nine goals on 10 total shot attempts.

In addition to Golia, Robert Tucker chipped in three goals and one assist, Kyle Arcuri added two goals and two assists, Anthony Teresky tallied the first two goals of his college career, and Billy Kopsky contributed a pair of assists.

Golia nearly doubled the entire offensive output of the Sailfish by himself. In the first match in program history, Palm Beach Atlantic was led by two goals apiece from Brendan Fischer and Ted Hollander, while Jackson Miller had a goal and two assists.

The Railsplitters dominated possession against the Sailfish, posting a 48-32 edge in shot attempts, a 29-15 advantage in shots on goal and a 16-for-19 effort on clearances. Lincoln Memorial also went 18-for-29 on face-offs.

Golia scored three goals in the first quarter to stake the Railsplitters to a 4-1 lead through the first 15 minutes of action. Arcuri scored the first of his two goals early in the second quarter to extend the LMU lead to 5-1.

After Palm Beach Atlantic scored with just over 12 minutes left in the half to cut the deficit to 5-2, the Railsplitters ended the half with a 6-1 flurry powered by two goals and two assists from Golia. That spurt sent Lincoln Memorial into the break with a commanding 11-3 lead.

The Railsplitters used three different 3-0 runs in the second half to continue to expand on the lead. All told, Lincoln Memorial outscored the Sailfish in every quarter. The Railsplitters also outshot Palm Beach Atlantic in every quarter aside from the fourth.

Lincoln Memorial produced 15 assists as a team, with nine different players providing at least one. Along with Golia, Arcuri and Kopsky, Craig Settles also finished with multiple assists with a pair.

Michael Kessler and Jeffrey Handman once again split goalie duties. Kessler made the start and picked up the first win of his college career after allowing five goals with four saves through the first three quarters. Handman finished things off with three saves and three goals allowed over the final 15 minutes.

Ben Savick was saddled with the loss for Palm Beach Atlantic. He made three saves and surrendered 15 goals in just over 40 minutes of work.
