Railsplitters pound Eagles 8-1, move to 2-0 in the SAC

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The LMU men's tennis team swept the doubles and took five of six in singles play to improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play with the 8-1 win at Carson-Newman Thursday afternoon.

LMU improves to 10-1 over Carson-Newman in the Benny Collins era.

The Railsplitters rolled through doubles play to move to 3-0 for the match. Moritz Hoerner and Jake Tuchmann grabbed LMU's first win with their 8-2 win at no. 1 while Xavier Marti and Constantin Ernstberger won at no. 3 by an 8-5 margin. David Segarra and Joshua Peress improved to 6-2 on the season with their 8-5 win at no. 2.

In singles play, Ernstberger improved to 8-1 on the season with his 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win at no. 2 over Rodolfo Schwarz. David Segarra then eked out a 7-6, 7-6 win at no. 3 to give LMU the match victory.

Joshua Peress then picked up his seventh dual match win of the season and the 57th win of his career as he and Gabriel Dabdab went to three sets before Peress won 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 at the no. 1 spot.

Moritz Hoerner won over Taylor Barie in three sets at no. 4 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 while Iker Tomas Moure defeated Jesus Bacete 8-5 at the no. 5 flight.

Joseph Stiles won at no. 6 over Carlos Zunino to give the Eagles their only point of the match.

LMU will close out the two game road swing as they travel to Charlotte to face Queens Saturday afternoon. They return home to host Tusculum next Wednesday.
