JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The LMU women's tennis team won two of three at doubles and five of six in singles play to improve to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play with the 7-2 win at Carson-Newman Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles took the first point with the 8-5 doubles win at no. 1.
Johanna Delisse and
Julia Loos then took the 8-2 win at no. 2 to improve to 6-4 on the season. LMU then took a 2-1 lead after
Kristin Vogel and
Kiersten Waugh picked up their fifth win of the season with the 8-4 win at no. 3.
In singles play, 35th-ranked
Marta Pinol went to three sets as she won over C-N's Jill Corsato 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 at the no. 1 spot. Vogel also needed three sets to pick up the win at no. 2 over Abby Reis 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Valls then gave LMU the match win at the no. 4 spot when she defeated Alisa Liashove 6-2, 6-2 to claim her ninth win of the year.
The Eagles would claim their second point as they won at the no. 3 flight. There, Hannah Price and
Julia Loos went the distance and then some as Price pulled out the match in a tiebreaker in the third set 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
Julia Zellner defeated Mallory Jackson 6-0, 7-5 at no. 5 and Solano won 8-3 over Klara Vuckovic at no. 6. Both Solano and Zellner are now 9-1 on the season.
LMU will close out the two game road swing as they travel to Charlotte to face Queens Saturday afternoon. They return home to host Tusculum next Wednesday.
