Lady Railsplitters fall to 15th-ranked Pioneers 8-1

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Fifteenth-ranked Tusculum proved to be too powerful for the LMU women's tennis team to overcome as they fell to the Pioneers 8-1 in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday afternoon in the Indoor Tennis Facility.

LMU falls to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the SAC with the loss.

Tusculum (14-0, 3-0 SAC) is ranked 15th in the latest ITA national rankings, which were released just prior to the start of today's match. They also have three singles players ranked and one doubles pair.

TC took all three doubles flights as LMU's Marta Pinol and Angelica Solano fell to the fifth-ranked McCullough sisters (Annie and Caitlin) 8-5 on court one. Johanna Delisse and Julia Loos were defeated 8-4 on court two while Kristin Vogel and Julia Valls were bested 8-4 on court three.

In singles, Pinol fell to #16 Katarina Majarova 6-3, 6-1 on court one. It was a rematch of the ITA Southeast Region Group A quarterfinal match back in October, which was also won by Majarova. On court two, 59th-ranked Franziska Funke won over Vogel 6-4, 6-2 while 55th-ranked Annie McCullough defeated Loos 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 on court three. With the match won, the last three flights were played under "speed-up" rules. Julia Zellner then picked up LMU's lone win of the day on court three where she defeated Angelica DeVincenzis 8-3 while Valls and Solano both fell in their flights by 8-7 margins.

LMU will host Coker on Saturday at 10 a.m. With a 90 percent chance of showers in the forecast, the match will likely be played in the Indoor Tennis Facility.
