Railsplitters reach 10 wins, remain unbeaten in SAC play with 18-9 win at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Railsplitters scored 12 second-half goals and led wire-to-wire to become the third team in the nation to reach the 10-win plateau with an 18-9 victory at Mars Hill on Wednesday afternoon.

Lincoln Memorial (10-1, 4-0 SAC) was in a dogfight throughout most of the first half and found itself tied with the Lions (1-9, 0-4 SAC) late in the second quarter. However, the Railsplitters outscored Mars Hill 13-4 over the final 34 minutes to win their eighth consecutive match and remain unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play.

Adam Golia and Kyle Arcuri powered the victory by combining for 11 points. Golia scored two goals and added four assists while Arcuri piled up four assists to go along with a goal. Along with that duo, Robert Tucker scored a team-leading three goals, Dylan Neisler and Nick Borriello added a pair of goals apiece and Billy Kopsky chipped in two goals and an assist.

Michael Kessler played all 60 minutes in goal for the Railsplitters, making seven saves to earn the win. His counterpart, Ryan Kearney, recorded 20 saves and allowed all 18 goals in the loss.

Dima Ferreira accounted for over half of the Lions' offensive production with a game-high four goals and two assists. Parker Beaudry was the only other Mars Hill player with multiple points with a pair of goals.

The Railsplitters dominated the first quarter and established a 4-1 lead. Arcuri assisted on goals by Neisler, Golia and Reggie Golfin in the frame, while Connor Fernandes tallied the lone goal of the quarter for Mars Hill.

Mars Hill controlled the pace in the second quarter, though, opening on a 3-0 run powered by two goals by Ferreira to tie the match at 4-4. Kopsky briefly put the Railsplitters back in front at the 6:07 mark but Jake Trafton drew it back level less than two minutes later.

However, the Railsplitters went berserk and asserted their will on the match from that moment on. Borriello scored with 2:50 left in the second quarter to send Lincoln Memorial into the break with a 6-5 lead. The Railsplitters then outscored the Lions 6-1 in the third quarter, which included a 5-0 run carried by four man-up goals that bled into the fourth quarter and put LMU in front 13-6.

Tucker tallied two more man-up goals in the fourth quarter while Jared Courchene and Kairos Bodly also pitched in goals as the Railsplitters cruised to the 18-9 win.

All told, Lincoln Memorial finished 6-for-12 on man-up opportunities compared to a 1-for-4 mark for Mars Hill. The Railsplitters outshot the Lions 49-29, including a massive 38-16 edge in shots on goal. LMU also only committed 12 turnovers compared to 16 for Mars Hill.

With his two-goal, one-assist outburst, Kopsky became the third player in program history with over 100 career points along with Golia and Arcuri.

The Railsplitters resume their three-game road trip on Saturday by paying a visit to the Wingate Bulldogs for a SAC match starting at 4 p.m.
