Railsplitters return to Mars Gym for Tuesday night clash with Crusaders

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team (6-8) briefly returns home to face North Greenville (9-9) Tuesday night at Mary Mars Gymnasium. The Railsplitters lost both games of their weekend trip through Illinois against No. 7 Lewis and No. 6 Loyola Chicago. Lewis swept LMU in straight sets, but the upset-minded Railsplitters pushed the Loyola match to five sets. North Greenville has won four of its last five matches including a straight-set home victory over the Railsplitters on February 17 and most recently a home sweep of Coker on Saturday.

- Lincoln Memorial's upset bid at No. 6 Loyola Chicago came up short as the Railsplitters ultimately fell to the Ramblers in five sets (17-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 12-15) Saturday night at Gentile Arena. Evan Cory was one shy of his season high with 15 kills and added four blocks. Joshua Riblett added 10 kills and Pedro Carvalho nine. Dimitrios Kyridis took part in a career-high eight blocks. Loyola's Will Tischler posted game highs of 16 kills and four service aces. Three more Ramblers pitched in eight kills apiece.
 
-  Loyola had the advantage in kills (58-46), hitting percentage (.248-.191) and service aces (10-6) while the Railsplitters led in blocks 16-13. Digs were tied at 39. The Ramblers committed 26 attack errors to LMU's 24.
 
- LMU fell to No. 7 Lewis in straight sets (16-25, 16-25, 10-25) on Friday night. The Flyers led for nearly the entirety of the match and accumulated 38 kills to LMU's 26 and held a .421-.041 edge in attack percentage. Lewis also committed 16 fewer attack errors (22-6) and tallied 11 total blocks while the Railsplitters had a season-low three.
 
- Cory led the Railsplitters in kills with eight but had his second-lowest attack percentage of the season (.080) thanks to six errors. Carvalho racked up seven kills without an attack error and hit .700
 
- Carvalho is second nationally in blocks per set at 1.298 and tied for second with 15 solo blocks. He came in second in the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Player of the Month poll for February with 27.01 percent of the vote.
 
- Cory has recorded a double-digit kill total in eight of 14 matches and leads the team with 146 kills, 3.11 kills per set (36th nationally) and 15 service aces. The sophomore from Metairie, Louisiana has led or been tied for the team lead in kills in 12 of 14 matches. His .305 hitting percentage also ranks 36th nationally.
 
- Risavy is the only other Railsplitter besides Cory and Carvalho to start all 14 matches and appear in all 47 of the team's sets played. The freshman setter has dished out 393 assists and averages 8.36 per set (28th nationally).
 
- Lincoln Memorial is 6-1 on the season at Mary Mars Gymnasium and 14-6 all-time. Only one home match has extended beyond three sets this season. The Railsplitters are 0-7 playing away from Harrogate on the year and 2-19 in the program's brief history.
 
- Eleven of LMU's 14 matches on the season have only lasted three sets. The only ones that didn't were a five-set loss at Quincy on February 2, a four-set home win over Coker one week later and the Loyola match Saturday. Lincoln Memorial held a 2-0 lead in the Quincy and Coker matches.
 
- The team has improved its attack percentage from .201 in its inaugural year to .213. Kills per set have decreased slightly from 10.2 to 10.0. Digs per set are also down from 8.8 to 7.7. Blocks per set have increased from 2.0 to 2.5.
 
Notes on North Greenville:
 
- The Crusaders are just 2-5 on the road compared to 7-2 at home. The team is currently tied for fourth place out of nine teams in Conference Carolinas with a 4-5 record.
 
- North Greenville most recently swept Coker at home in straight sets (29-27, 25-16, 25-21) on Saturday afternoon. Ben Hamsho hit a perfect 1.000 with 12 kills on 12 attempts and assisted on four blocks. Matthew McManaway added 11 kills and hit .473.
 
- The Crusaders held edges in kills (43-31), attack percentage (.418-.208) and blocks (7.0-3.0).
 
- The Crusaders led for nearly the entirety of the first match against Lincoln Memorial and led 32-24 in kills with a .362-.119 edge in attack percentage. North Greenville also committed six fewer attack errors (17-11) and recorded eight service aces to LMU's two. The Crusaders didn't hit below .263 in any set while the Railsplitters never hit above .200.
 
- Lincoln Memorial had no answer for McManaway, who notched 10 kills and a .643 hitting percentage with three service aces and five total blocks. Aaron Campbell added seven kills on a .417 clip with five total blocks and two service aces. Jake Boldog tallied a game-high 25 assists and tied teammate Jackson Gilbert for the most digs (3).
 
- For the season, North Greenville only has 640 kills (10.0 per set) compared to 707 (11.0) for opponents. Attack errors are nearly identical (326-329), though the Crusaders have hit just .188 to opponents' .232. North Greenville hold a 92-74 edge in service aces.
 
- Gilbert leads the team with 171 kills and 2.67 kills per set. McManaway has the best attack percentage at .292. Boldog leads with 18 service aces and 8.25 assists per set.
