MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lady Railsplitter tennis team won their second match in as many days as they roared past the Mars Hill Lions 8-1 Wednesday afternoon.
LMU improves to 12-6 overall and 5-4 in South Atlantic Conference play while the Lions fall to 2-15 and 0-9.
Julia Valls and
Kristin Vogel started things off with their 8-0 win at no. 3, followed by
Marta Pinol and
Angelica Solano at no. 1, where they won 8-6.
Julia Loos and
Johanna Delisse then won by an 8-5 margin at no. 2.
In singles, Pinol's match at no. 2 ended quickly as she was ahead 5-0 when her opponent retired. Loos then picked up the 6-1, 6-1 win at no. 3 to secure the win for the Lady Railsplitters.
MHU's Jasha Geerdink earned the Lions' only win of the day with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Vogel at no. 1.
Valls then won 6-0. 6-0 at no. 4 before the match went to pro sets. In those,
Julia Zellner and Solano each won by 8-0 margins at no. 5 and no. 6, respectively.
LMU will close out the regular season Saturday vs. Lenoir-Rhyne. It will be senior day for
Javiera Gonzalez,
Angelica Solano, and
Julia Zellner.
