Amara Moss becomes first 100 goal scorer in LMU WLAX history with four goals in 15-11 senior day win over Newberry

HICKORY, N.C. – Four goals by Amara Moss powered the Lady Railsplitter lacrosse team to the 15-11 win over Newberry on a record-setting day at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.

It was the final home match of the season for seniors Shannon Novak, Jessie Graham, Autumn Beddington and Julia Koogler.

With the win, LMU (7-7, 2-5 SAC) set a new program record for wins in a season with seven, besting the six wins set by last year's squad. In addition, Moss became the program's first 100 goal scorer with her efforts Saturday.

The junior scored four goals, marking the eighth time this season she has scored three or more goals. She also had an assist and won a game-high 10 draws. Moss shared the scoring lead with Erin DePaul, who also had four goals. Casey Kelly had a pair of goals and two assists, while Kennedy Buechner chipped in two goals as well.

Zoe Zervos had a goal and a team-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers while Rachel Bernhardt and Autumn Beddington each added a goal. Novak had 11 saves and three ground balls.

Both team had several shots saved or missed before Buechner put LMU on the board with her 34th goal of the year at the 25:17 mark. The Wolves scored a goal of their own 40 seconds later, but a couple minutes later Beddington grabbed the ground ball off a missed shot by Buechner and gave it to Kelly, who saw Zervos making a cut in front of the net, got it to her, and she scored.

Newberry won the next possession, and after a LMU foul, scored on the free position shot to tie the game at 2-2. LMU would take a 3-2 lead after DePaul scored the free position goal on LMU's next possession. DePaul would then put LMU ahead by two with a goal several minutes later.

The Wolves then scored three straight goals, including a rare woman-down goal, to take a 5-4 lead with 8:30 remaining. Buechner then sparked a 5-0 run by the Lady Railsplitters with her goal at the 5:51 mark and her assist to Beddington a minute later. LMU went into the half with a 6-5 lead.

Moss entered the game with 99 career goals and had a quiet first half, but the team's leading scorer came out shooting in half number two as LMU's Kelly won the opening draw and passed it to Moss, who ran straight at the goal and scored to become LMU's first player to score 100 career goals. She then followed that up with two more goals over the next five minutes to pick up her eighth hat trick of the season.

Newberry finally broke their scoring drought at the 23:19 mark and then both teams had several shots over the next few minutes, but could not find the back of the net. DePaul scored her third goal with 17:42 left and Moss a minute and a half later to give the Lady Railsplitters the 11-6 lead. The Wolves scored on the next possession, but LMU answered back almost immediately with Bernhardt's ninth goal of the season to go ahead 12-7

The Wolves would outscore LMU 4-3 down the stretch, but a pair of goals by Kelly and one from DePaul helped LMU maintain their goal differential as the Lady Railsplitters held on for the 15-11 win.

LMU led in shots (38-21), shots on goal (22-17) and draws (18-10). Newberry led in turnovers (25-21), ground balls (28-24) and saves (8-7).

LMU will host travel to play at Coker next Saturday in the regular season finale.
