Railsplitters close out nonconference schedule with 10-6 win over King

HARROGATE, Tenn. – TheLincoln Memorial University baseball team completed a season sweep over in-state rival King (24-17) with a 10-6 nonconference win Wednesday afternoon at Lamar Hennon Field.
 
The Railsplitters (28-18) outhit King 13-8 and were led offensively by Tyler Adams, who finished 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles. The sophomore shortstop also scored and drove in three runs and stole a base. Timmy Wages also went deep. Four Railsplitters—Wages, Seth Hunt, Will Reddick and Nate Stinson—added two hits apiece. Reddick, Wages and Stinson tallied two RBI apiece while Hunt, Reddick and Wages each scored twice. 
 
Kevin Barbato went 2-for-4 for King with a walk and two RBI. Six Tornado players notched one hit apiece. Cam Haymans drove in two of the team's six runs, and Mark Michael scored twice. Bubba Ruiz and Tony Valdes each doubled and scored.
 
Lincoln Memorial got off to a quick start offensively with three first-inning runs and plated another in the second. Hunt led off with a single, and back-to-back doubles by Reddick and Adams each drove in runs. Wages later added a sac fly. Reddick was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second inning to bring in the team's fourth run.
 
Ben Wiley held the Tornado hitless through four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth with four hits and two runs allowed before departing after 4.2 innings. Singles by Haymans and Ashton King brought in the runs.
 
The Railsplitters got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a Wages solo shot and added four more in the sixth to expand their lead to 9-2. Adams' RBI double plated the first run of the sixth, and Stinson later doubled in two more. A Mason Ewers groundout also brought in a run.
 
King scored a run in the seventh on a groundout following a three-base error. Adams' solo blast in the eighth made the score 10-3.
 
The Tornado battled back with three ninth-inning runs, including a Barbato two-run double, but Jake Grenus got Ruiz to fly out with runners on second and third to end the game.
 
The Railsplitters conclude their regular season with a three-game South Atlantic Conference showdown against Mars Hill beginning Friday evening at Lamar Hennon Field. The series will play a crucial part in determining seeding for the upcoming SAC Championship.
