Railsplitters surge late to advance to SAC semifinals with 13-10 win over Coker

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Kyle Arcuri scored the go-ahead goal early in the fourth quarter and Robert Tucker tallied a pair of late goals to send the three-seeded Railsplitters into the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference Championship for the first time in program history with a hard-fought 13-10 win over six-seeded Coker on Tuesday at the LMU Soccer Complex.

In the first home postseason match in program history, Lincoln Memorial (14-3) closed with four unanswered goals to earn the first SAC tournament win in the program's four-season history and end Coker's (7-8) season.

Arcuri and Tucker powered the LMU attack by combining for seven of the team's 13 goals. Arcuri scored four and added an assist while Tucker chipped in three goals with an assist as well. Adam Golia was limited to one goal but led all players with three assists, while Billy Kopsky had a goal and two assists. Dylan Neisler and Chad Walters had a goal and an assist apiece.

Both teams took turns dominating portions of the match.

The Railsplitters controlled the pace early and used three Arcuri goals to jump out to a 5-1 lead late in the first quarter. Coker answered, though, and cut Lincoln Memorial's lead to 8-7 at the half before scoring twice early in the third quarter to take its first lead of the match, 9-8. After Tucker's first goal of the match tied it at 9-9, Matt Murphy gave the Cobras a 10-9 lead at the 3:37 mark of the third quarter.

With the match and the season hanging in the balance, Golia tied the match at 10-10 with 1:44 left in the third quarter off a feed from Neisler to kick start the Railsplitters' 4-0 closing run.

With the match still tied, Arcuri recovered a loose ball in front of the net following a rocket from Neisler and put the eventual game-winning goal into the back of the net.

The score held at 11-10 in LMU's favor until Tucker gave the Railsplitters some breathing room with an unassisted goal at the 3:31 mark. He then put the exclamation point on the win by finishing off a pass from Kopsky with 50 seconds left.

Ethan Irizarry led Coker with four goals on a match-high 16 shots. Rylee Marsh, Charles Stafford and Justin Hopkins had one goal and one assist apiece.

Goalie Michael Kessler made 13 saves to pick up the win for Lincoln Memorial while his counterpart, Chris Hagy, finished with just six saves.

The Railsplitters will face two-seeded Wingate for a spot in the SAC Championship final on Friday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m. in Wingate, N.C.
