Railsplitters drop back-and-forth decision to Trevecca 11-10

HARROGATE, Tenn. –Trevecca Nazarene (13-17) scored a pair of runs in the ninth on back-to-back solo home runs to top the Lincoln Memorial University baseball team 11-10 in a back-and-forth affair Tuesday night at Lamar Hennon Field. The Railsplitters (23-12) were dealt their first nonconference loss since their season-opening series to snap a 13-game win streak.
 
The Trojans outhit LMU 14-12. Chris Salvey finished 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and pair of runs scored. Will Reddick also went 2-for-5 with two RBI and runs scored. Seth Hunt (2-for-4) and Henry Moore (2-for-3) added two base hits apiece.
 
Trevecca snapped a seven-game losing streak with the victory. Brandon Hauswald and Chandler Miller each had three hits. Ethan Harrison finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Ethan Hurt and Mason Jones hit back-to-back solo shots in the ninth to put the Trojans ahead for good. Harrison and Sam Mang also went deep.
 
Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. Ben Wiley allowed three runs in 4.1 innings on seven hits and struck out four. His counterpart, Jake Roberson, allowed two runs in three innings and struck out four.
 
Ryne Caudle picked up the win despite giving up a pair of runs on Salvey's homer in the eighth inning. Matt Walczak took the loss. Tyler Burns pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his third save.
 
LMU led 2-0 after the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Logan Augustine and Timmy Wages. Trevecca tied the score on a Harrison RBI double and Hauswald RBI infield single in the second.
 
The Railsplitters plated three runs in the third on a Hunt bases-loaded walk and ensuing Reddick two-run single. Harrison's solo blast the following inning gave the Trojans a run back.
 
LMU increased its lead to 7-3 with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Marco Rios doubled in a run, and another later crossed on a passed ball.
 
Trevecca roared back with six runs in the seventh to take a 9-7 lead. Mang's two-run homer started the rally. A Miller bases-loaded walk, Braden Odom two-run single and Harrison sac fly accounted for the other runs. The Trojans only had three hits in the inning and were aided by two LMU errors.
 
Moore singled in a run in the bottom half of the seventh, and Salvey's homer gave the Railsplitters a 10-9 lead heading to the ninth.
 
Hurt and Jones then went deep to lead off the top of the ninth to put the Trojans ahead 11-10.
 
The game lasted exactly four hours, which was LMU's longest of the season.
 
Lincoln Memorial will return to the field tomorrow to host a doubleheader with Bellarmine beginning at 3 p.m.
