Men's Volleyball visits Coker for penultimate match of regular season

HARTSVILLE, S.C. –The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team continues its season-ending road trip with a match at Coker (12-8) Friday evening. The Railsplitters (11-12) swept Alderson Broaddus Friday before falling to Charleston in straight sets Saturday afternoon in their trip through West Virginia last weekend. The Cobras, who are concluding their regular season, have won six of their past seven matches and most recently topped Alderson Broaddus on Saturday.
 
LMU topped Coker in four sets at Mary Mars Gymnasium on February 7. The Railsplitters recorded a then-program record 17 blocks in the win.

- Lincoln Memorial swept Alderson Broaddus in straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-13) to set a new program record with its 11thwin. The team's .409 hitting percentage set a new season high for a road match. Kills were even at 33 apiece, but the Battlers committed 23 attack errors and hit just .120. Meanwhile, the Railsplitters only committed six attack errors.
 
- Evan Cory set a program record for kills in a three-set match with 16 and only recorded one error. His .625 attack percentage also set a new program record with a minimum of 20 attempts. 
 
- LMU fell in straight sets (25-27, 17-25, 20-25) Saturday afternoon at Charleston to split its West Virginia road trip. The Golden Eagles held a 44-29 advantage in kills and hit .252 while LMU was held to a .124 attack percentage. Charleston also held edges in blocks (9-7) and digs (47-35).
 
- Cory was held to season-low totals of four kills and a .034 hitting percentage. Joshua Riblett led the Railsplitters with eight kills while Jordan Walley and Pedro Carvalho pitched in five apiece.
 
- Carvalho remains the national leader with 1.488 blocks per set and 26 solo blocks. For the second time this year, the sophomore from São Paulo, Brazil is a finalist for Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Player of the Month.
 
- The Railsplitters are second nationally in blocks per set with 2.78. This has helped the team hold opponents to the fourth-lowest hitting percentage of .196.
 
- Cory has recorded a double-digit kill total in 16 of 23 matches and leads the team with 285 kills, 3.39 kills per set (25thnationally) and 33 service aces. The sophomore from Metairie, Louisiana has led or been tied for the team lead in kills in 20 of 22 matches. His .307 hitting percentage ranks 34thnationally.
 
- Risavy is the only other Railsplitter besides Carvalho to start all 23 matches and appear in all 84 sets played. The freshman setter has dished out 713 assists and averages 8.49 per set (28thnationally).
 
- Lincoln Memorial finished 9-1 on the season at Mary Mars Gymnasium and is 17-6 all-time. The Railsplitters are 2-11 playing away from Harrogate on the year and 4-23 in the program's brief history.
 
- The team has improved its attack percentage from .201 in its inaugural year to .216. Kills per set are down from 10.21 to 10.12. Digs per set are also down from 8.80 to 8.26. Blocks per set have increased dramatically from 1.98 to 2.78.
 
Notes on Coker: 
 
- The Cobras are 7-2 at home compared to 5-6 on the road. The team ends its season playing nine of 11 at home and are 7-3 during the current stretch.
 
- Coker guaranteed it would finish the season with a winning record by winning at Alderson Broaddus in four sets (25-19, 29-27, 19-25, 27-25) on Saturday. Joao Victor Santos reached the 20-kill mark for the fifth time this season. Stephen Porras added 15 kills at a .393 clip while Gabriel Castro contributed 14 kills. The trio combined for 49 of the team's 50 kills.
 
- Santos (293), Porras (234) and Castro (225) have racked up over 86 percent of Coker's kills for the season. Santos is 13thnationally with 3.71 kills per set.
 
- Coker ranks 29thnationally as a team with 11.05 kills per set.
 
- Aleksa Bijelic ranks 23rd nationally with 9.04 assists per set.
 
- The Cobras have been playing shorthanded all season with just six players listed on the roster. All six have played in every one of the team's 79 sets.
 
- Coker also ranks 16thnationally with 9.42 digs per set. All six players average more than one per set. Gary Baker leads the team with 2.38, which is 15thnationally.
