HICKORY, N.C. – LMU cut the Lenoir-Rhyne lead to one twice, but large runs by the host Bears caused a gap too large to close as Lenoir-Rhyne held on for the 14-4 South Atlantic Conference win over the Lady Railsplitters Saturday afternoon.
LMU (6-6, 1-4 SAC) saw Lenoir-Rhyne (6-7, 6-0 SAC) score two quick goals before answering back with a goal by
Kennedy Buechner. LMU's defense then strengthened and caused two shot clock violations and a turnover by the Bears, but a Lady Railsplitter turnover led to a L-R goal at the 15 minute mark of the first half. LMU responded a manute later with a free position goal by
Amara Moss to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Bears then went on a run, scoring five goals over the next 23 minutes to extend their lead to 8-2. Moss scored her second goal of the day with 10:08 left in the game. L-R would then score six more unanswered goals to move to 14-3.
Erin DePaul picked up her lone goal as time expired in the game as LMU fell 14-4.
Amara Moss led LMU for the day with two goals.
Erin DePaul and
Kennedy Buechner each chipped in one goal each.
Shannon Novak had eight saves and four ground balls.
L-R led in shots (27-20), saves (11-8), draws (11-8), ground balls (15-13) and turnovers (15-14).
LMU will return home for two games next week as they host Tusculum on Wednesday and Newberry Saturday.
