Railsplitters Snipe Past Pioneers for Conference Victory

Freshman midfielder Kasimir Lauber tacks an assist and goal in Railsplitter win

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team traveled to Tusculum University to continue conference play on Wednesday evening.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior forward Ueslei Silva settled a ball from freshman midfielder Kasimir Lauber and took a strike at the upper left corner to find the back of the net for the fourth time this season to get the Railsplitters on the board first in the 42nd minute of play.
 
In the first five minutes of the second half, Tusculum's Nikola Vujicic responded with a goal assisted by Dani Gongora to even the game at 1-1.
 
Twenty minutes later, Lauber zipped a ball through the Pioneers' defense to take a lead 2-1 lead, ultimately leading to the victory for the Blue and Gray.
 
PLAYING WITH PERSONNEL
Coach Spain stated, "We are a team that has a lot of different players that can fill a lot of different roles, so we can change players for certain situations." This has become helpful as five freshmen started and two came off the bench for today's game.
 
PRESSURE POINTS
"Teams will have to decide whether to sit back or apply pressure at some point while playing us, we can get behind your backline and we can counter pressure," Spain in reference to defensive strategy changes during the second half.
 
TEAM STATS
The Railsplitters were even with the Indians in shots (11-11) and led in shots on goal (6-4) and corner kicks (7-5) throughout the contest.
 
THE KEEPERS
TU – Sam Gilbert tallied four saves and two goals against on the evening.
LMU – Robin Hermann steered away three shots faced and one lone goal.  
 
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
After today's victory, the Railsplitters advance a 8-3-4 all-time head-to-head record against the Tusculum University Pioneers backtracking to September of 2007.
 
UP NEXT!
The Railsplitters will continue on the road for another conference match at Anderson University in South Carolina for a kickoff at 3:30 PM on Saturday, Oct. 19.
