Railsplitter Soccer Drives Past Lenoir-Rhyne 2-0 on Saturday Afternoon

LMU takes 2-0 victory over SAC opponent Lenoir-Rhyne

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team hosted Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the concluding minutes of the first half of play sophomore midfielder Danilo Seglio received a ball from freshman midfielder Hunter Stroble to finesse around his defender and strike a shot through Lenoir Rhyne's Alex Langer's hands to take a 1-0 lead (42').
 
After 11 of minutes of action in the second half, defender Jeroen Kokje crossed a ball to the back post to senior forward Matteo Bufalo leading to a header to increase the lead to 2-0 (56').
 
TEAM STATS:
The Railsplitters and Bears were close in opportunities for shots (6-9), shots on goal (3-3) and corner kicks (2-2) throughout the 90 minutes of action Saturday.
 
TO BE NOTED:
Lenoir-Rhyne were co-champions of the 2018-19 regular season with Queens University. After the Railsplitters win today, they have defeated both squads 2-0 this season.
 
Coming into today's game, the Railsplitters program has conceded the least amount of goals to conference teams in the SAC (2).

Today's victory marks the third-straight shutout for the Railsplitters in South Atlantic Conference action. 

TEAM THOUGHTS:
"Biggest difference from Wednesday against University of Alabama-Hunstville to today was effort. Just getting places a little bit quicker and doing the extra little things," Coach Spain on the Railsplitters' play throughout the week.
 
"Today we played the game we've been wanting to play. We created our chances the way we want to create them. I'm very proud of the team and if we keep shutting out teams, it will lead to us winning more games," freshman goalkeeper Robin Hermann noted for the team's performance this afternoon.
 
Senior forward Matteo Bufalo added, "We played very well together today and focused on the concepts we've practiced throughout the week."
 
GOING FORWARD:
 
"We need to play the second half the way we play the first half so we can be more successful against tougher teams," Hermann discussing on ways for the Railsplitters to improve.
 
Bufalo stated, "In order to improve, we need to increase the amount of minutes that we can play our game, follow our concepts and make it more difficult for our opponents."
 
 
THE KEEPERS:
LRU – Alex Langer had two goals against with one save on the afternoon.   
LMU – Robin Hermann accumulated three saves in the shutout contest.
 
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
After today's victory over the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears, the Railsplitters extend their all-time head-to-head record to 9-3-1.   
 
UP NEXT!
The Railsplitters will travel to Salem University in Salem, West Virginia for a matchup at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
