BRISTOL, Tenn. – After trailing by as much as 12 during the fourth quarter at King University, the LMU women's basketball team cut the lead to 62-59 with a little over two minutes remaining in the game. The Tornado would rally and score five of the last six points of the contest as they held off LMU 67-60 Wednesday evening.
LMU falls to 0-2 on the season, while King improves to 2-3 with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• LMU took a 5-0 lead and maintained it until late in the first quarter.
• The Tornado then scored nine unanswered points and held a 21-18 lead at the end of the first stanza.
• King extended the lead to 35-25 with two minutes remaining in the half.
• The Lady Railsplitters would make a late surge and cut the lead to 39-31 at halftime.
• LMU's defense held the Crusaders scoreless to only 25 percent shooting in the third quarter, while shooting 30 percent themselves.
• The Lady Railsplitters would claw their way back to within four points, 48-44, following a pair of
Lindsay Proffitt free throws.
• King extended the lead to 58-46 with 5:43 left in the game before back-to-back three pointers from
Kyndall Caudle and
Toni McCombs sparked a 13-4 run to cut the lead to 62-59.
• LMU then went cold from the field as they only scored one free throw down the stretch as King held on for the 67-60 win.

Shermeria Quarles led LMU with nine points and 12 rebounds as she just missed out on her second career double-double. Her other double-double was exactly one year ago – against King.
• Arielle Holloway led the Tornado with a career-high 22 points.
• LMU shot 38.5 percent from the field and hit seven-of-24 three pointers (29.2 percent).
• King hit 42.9 percent from the field but we cold from three-point range, only hitting 18.8 percent.
• LMU struggled at the free throw line, hitting 3 of the seven free throws (42.9 percent) for the night. King was slightly better, shooting 62.5 percent with nine more chances at the line.
• LMU won the rebounding battle, pulling down 41 rebounds to 40 by King. 15 of those were offensive rebounds.
• LMU converted 14 points off of 10 King turnovers, while the Tornado scored 21 points off of 17 Lady Railsplitter turnovers.
