Long-range Shooting Pushes LMU past Coker, 69-65

Lindsay Proffitt hits six three-pointers in the win

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The LMU women's basketball team had their best offensive output of the season and used a fourth quarter surge to pull away from Coker for the 69-64 South Atlantic Conference win Saturday afternoon. Lindsay Proffitt led four LMU players in double figures with 20 points, including six three-pointers.

With the win, the Lady Railsplitters improve to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in SAC play, Coker falls to 2-3 and 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams started sluggishly, with LMU going 2-10 to start off. Coker was 5-13 in the first period and held the 11-5 lead at the quarter break.
• LMU rallied back in the second quarter as Proffitt hit three treys to spark LMU to outscore the Cobras 21-15 for the stanza and tie the game at the half 26-26.
• The Lady Railsplitters almost doubled the percentage that Coker shot in the second quarter, as they hit 75 percent (9-12) to Coker's 35.7 percent (5-14).  
• Coker rallied in the third quarter to lead 46-43 heading into the final period.
• LMU grabbed the lead back on a Maggie Jachimczuk basket and the teams traded the lead until the game was tied at 57-57 with 4:21 remaining.
• Baskets by Toni McCombs and Semajia Ogburn put the LMU lead at six late, and free throws by Lexi Kiser and McCombs sealed the deal as LMU held on for the five point win.
 
KEY PLAYERS/STATS
• Proffitt led all scorers with 20 points, including a blistering 66.6 percent (6-9) from behind the arc. Her career-high six treys are the most since Ross Mathis had seven at Mars Hill on Jan. 31, 2018, and are tied for the eighth-most in program history.
Kiser, McCombs and Flowers each had three assists.
• McCombs had a career high 13 points in the win.
Ogburn
had a career-high 12 rebounds and her first career double-double as she also netted 10 points.
• For the game, LMU shot 54.3 percent from the field, 61.5 percent from behind the arc, and 61.1 percent from the charity stripe.
• Coker shot 43.1 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from three-point range, and 52.9 percent from the free throw line.
• The Lady Railsplitters won the battle of the boards 28-17.
• The Lady Railsplitters outscored the Cobras 8-4 on second-chance points and their bench had 35 points to 12 by Coker. The Cobras had 26 points in the paint, while LMU had 24.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Railsplitters finally return home for only their second game of the season as they step out of conference to host Tennessee Wesleyan. The game starts a three-game home stand for LMU.
