HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team closed their regular season at the LMU Soccer Complex in a conference contest against Mars Hill University on Wednesday afternoon.
RECOGNIZING SENIORS:
The following nine seniors were recognized today at the LMU Soccer Complex for their endless dedication, contribution and commitment to the LMU men's soccer program prior to kickoff.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Brandao got the Railsplitters on the board with no hesitation on a successful penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead (5') after
Danilo Seglio was fouled on a play inside the 18-yard box.
Brandao collected and scored with a cross from freshman midfielder
Kasimir Lauber off a corner-kick opportunity for the Railsplitters to take a commanding 2-0 lead (31').
Lauber dribbled past two defenders to deliver a ball to junior midfielder
Pedro da Silva for another goal under three minutes later (34') to extend the margin to 3-0.
After another penalty within the box committed by the Lions on Bufalo, Patnaik reached the back of the net to give the Railsplitters a 4-0 score.
In the eighty-ninth minute, freshman midfielder
JP Vinha connected with Sefoi to cap-off the game resulting in a 5-0 victory for LMU.
TEAM STATS:
LMU doubled the Lions in shots (16-8), tripled in shots on goal (9-3) and trailed closely in corner kicks (2-3) on the afternoon.
THE KEEPERS:
MHU – Freshman Brennan Whalen tallied three saves and four goals-against in just under 88 minutes of action against the Railsplitters. Senior Justin Eigel tacked on an additional save on the afternoon with one goal allowed in the closing minutes play.
LMU – Freshman
Robin Hermann registered 45 minutes of play and shared a shutout with Bergamo who tallied three saves. Hermann currently ranks third amongst SAC goalkeepers in shutouts with four solo blanks.
CONFERENCE NOTES:
LMU shows out as one of the most disciplined teams in the SAC with the fewest number of yellow cards received (11) against conference and non-conference (22) opponents throughout the 2019 regular season.
The Railsplitters rank second in shut-outs versus conference opponents with four, Wingate ranks first with five clean sheets. The keepers of LMU total 52 saves against conference foes listing second place behind Coker University (59).
After all ten games against conference opponents, the Railsplitters have the lowest goals-against average at .88 goals-allowed per game, totaling nine goals.
Lincoln Memorial shooting percentage calculates to .160 securing the number-two spot, trailing to Tusculum University (.172).
LMU's distribution totaling 14 assists in conference play ties-third with Coker University closely following Queens (15) and Carson-Newman (16).
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
After today's victory over Mars Hill, that pushes the all-time head-to-head record to 6-8-1 against the Lions. This victory also marks a three-game winning streak for the second time in all contests against Mars Hill University.

The Blue and Gray will now wait for final conference seedings to be in place to determine the future path of the Railsplitters in the upcoming SAC Tournament beginning on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the highest seed.
