HARROGATE, Tenn. – The LMU men's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season as they defeated Young Harris 4-3 Monday afternoon in the LMU Indoor Tennis Facility.
LMU took the doubles point after winning two of the three flights. At no. 2,
Iker Moure and
Moritz Hoerner defeated Javier Villar and Herman Ronnberg 7-6, while at no. 1 the Mountain Lions' Kash Reddiyar and Ignacio Ascarrunz won over LMU's
Fabian Sjokvist and
Sebastian Colla 6-3. At no. 3,
David Segarra and
Jake Tuchmann improved their doubles record to 4-3 on the year with their 6-1 win over Romeo Luque and Ruben Gonzalez.
In singles play, Moure defeated Ascarrunz 6-4, 6-2 at no. 2 to put LMU ahead 2-0, but then Hoerner fell to Reddiyar 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at no. 3 and Villar bested Segarra 6-3, 7-6 at no. 1 to tie the match up at 2-2.
Colla picked up the 6-1, 6-2 win over Gonzalez at no. 4, followed soon afterward by Tuchmann at no. 5, where his 6-4, 6-1 win over Ronnberg gave LMU the match victory.
At no. 5, Sjokvist and Luque battled had a long battle, with Sjokvist taking the first set 6-2 and Luque winning set two 6-3. The two then went to a tiebreaker set that featured several ties before Luque pulled ahead late to take the 12-10 tiebreaker set and the flight.
LMU will host future South Atlantic Conference member UVa-Wise Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
