2/19/2019 9:45:00 AM

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The second-to-last week of the regular season begins for the Railsplitters on Wednesday night as the Mars Hill Lions invade Tex Turner Arena for an 8 p.m. South Atlantic Conference clash.

With leading scorer Cornelius Taylor sidelined again on Saturday, Lincoln Memorial (18-6, 12-4 SAC) used a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defensive effort to defeat Newberry 91-85 on the road, extending its winning streak to four games in the process.

Mars Hill (9-14, 3-12 SAC), meanwhile, dropped its third straight game on Saturday, as the Lions took a 98-69 beating at Wingate.

The Railsplitters will be trying to beat Mars Hill for the 20th consecutive time. Live stats and video links are available at www.lmurailsplitters.com, while fans can also follow along with in-game updates at the official LMU athletics Twitter page, @LMURailsplitter.

Notes on Mars Hill

- The Lions have just three SAC wins on their resume this season and two of those came against Coker, who is currently sitting dead last in the conference standings at 1-16. Mars Hill's only other SAC win came against Carson-Newman on December 19.
- In Wednesday's whitewashing at Wingate, Mars Hill scored just 28 points in the first half and trailed by 35 points at the break. The Lions righted the ship a bit in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 41-35 to cut the final margin to 29.
- The Lions were led in that loss by 12 points apiece for Austin Stone and Javonte Cooke. Ja'Shawn Brooks added 11, while Matthew Powell chipped in with 10. No Mars Hill player had more than six rebounds as the team was demolished 51-39 on the glass.
- Mars Hill is a decent offensive team that averages a hair under 80 points per game and shoots the rock at a 45 percent clip. However, the Lions are almost no threat from three-point range, ranking 10th in the league with 6.9 made threes per contest.
- In SAC play, the Lions are conceding 85.6 points per game on 46 percent shooting and a 36 percent clip from three-point territory.
-  Brooks is ranked third in the SAC with a team-leading 18.6 points per game. The junior guard is shooting 46 percent from the field and burying 2.4 threes per game on a 44 percent mark. He is also among the team leaders in rebounding with 5.7 per outing.
- Cooke is the only other Mars Hill player averaging double figures at 12.7 points per game. The freshman guard is hitting 57 percent of his shot attempts and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per contest.
- Four other players are contributing over six points per game for the Lions: Austin Gilyard (8.6), Stone (6.3), Powell (6.3) and Reggie Wright (6.3).
- Mars Hill is an abysmal 2-8 away from its home court this season. In true road games, the Lions are shooting just 29.7 percent from three and scoring 78 points per contest.
- The Lions are ranked fourth in the SAC in blocks per game with 3.8. Nassyr Daniel leads the way with 25 blocks total.

Last Time Out

Five players combined for 81 of the Railsplitters' 91 points in a hard-fought win at Newberry on Saturday evening.

Cameron Henry led the charge with 21 points and eight rebounds. The redshirt-freshman scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half and made clutch bucket after clutch bucket to spark the victory.

Courvoisier McCauley added 17 points in 23 minutes off the bench, while Alex Dahling accounted for his first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Julius Brown also scored 16 points, while Anthony Brown had 11 points and seven assists with only two turnovers.

The Railsplitters turned the ball over only 14 times against the frenetic Newberry press defense, shot 46 percent from the field and held the Wolves to 35 percent shooting, including a dreadful 9-for-41 mark from three.

With the win, Lincoln Memorial stayed in a tie with Catawba for second place in the SAC standings with four conference games left, including a matchup against the Indians on Saturday at Tex Turner.

Tip-Ins

- Dahling hit four three-pointers against Newberry to push his career total to 98. The sophomore needs just two more to become the 20th player in program history to drain 100-plus career threes.
- McCauley has now scored at least 17 points in three of his last four appearances, including a pair of 23-point efforts against Hiwassee and Anderson.
- Taylor missed his fourth game of the season on Saturday due to injury. The redshirt-junior leads the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game.
- Anthony Brown has the fourth-highest assist-to-turnover ratio in the South Atlantic Conference at 2.3. He is also ranked seventh in the league in assists per game with 3.7. As a team, Lincoln Memorial leads the league with 16.9 assists per game. The Railsplitters also commit the third-fewest turnovers per game in the league with 13.1.
- Kamaran Calhoun has hit a bit of a scoring lull with double figures in only one of his last five appearances, but the redshirt-junior still leads the conference in field-goal percentage at 60.9 percent.
- The Railsplitters are just two wins away from posting their 10th consecutive 20-win season.

Series History

- The Railsplitters are 35-9 all-time against Mars Hill. That includes an 18-4 mark at Tex Turner Arena.
- Lincoln Memorial has not lost to the Lions since an overtime setback in Harrogate on January 23, 2010. Since then, the Railsplitters have captured 19 straight wins in the series.
- The Railsplitters survived a near upset at Mars Hill earlier this season, pulling out an 85-78 win on January 16. Calhoun led LMU in the absence of Taylor with 22 points and 10 boards, while Rhondi Hackett had 15 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Brooks did not play for Mars Hill in that game, as Vernon Jackson led the Lions with 16 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
