HARROGATE, Tenn. – It was a cold and rainy day outside, so the LMU women's tennis team hosted local NCAA division one rival East Tennessee State in the Indoor Tennis Facility Wednesday afternoon. Despite several hard-fought set points, in the end the Bucs prevailed 7-0.
LMU falls to 5-2 on the season while ETSU improves to 5-4.
In doubles,
Amanda Dahlstrom and
Kiersten Waugh fell to Alejandra Morales and Esther Guemes 6-1 at the no. 3 flight. Soon afterward
Kristin Vogel and
Johanna Delisse lost to Raquel Amaro and Yo Chi Ma at no. 1 by a 6-4 score. At no. 2,
Julia Loos and
Julia Valls also lost by a 6-4 margin to Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Yunuen Elizarraras.
The action then moved to singles play, where Valls fell to Amaro 6-2, 6-1 at no. 2, followed by Morales defeating Delisse 6-1, 6-4 at no. 1. Vogel lost to Yo 6-2, 6-1 at no. 5 and
Marta Pinol fell to Pascual-Larrinaga 6-0, 6-1. At no. 4, Loos was bested by Elizarraras 6-3, 6-2 and at no. 6, Guemes won over Dahlstrom 6-3, 6-3.
The Lady Railsplitters will host future South Atlantic Conference foe UVa-Wise this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the final meeting between the two teams as non-conference rivals. With the rainy forecast for the weekend, the match will probably be played in the Indoor Tennis Facility.
