LMU welcomes Catawba to town for Senior Day Saturday afternoon

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Catawba comes to the Tex Turner Arena for the final regular season home game of the season for LMU Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game, LMU will celebrate Senior Day and bid a fond farewell to five players who have made a huge contribution to the program over the past few years.

LMU is currently 14-11 overall and 9-8 in SAC play following their 82-65 rout of Mars Hill Wednesday evening. The Lady Railsplitters led from wire to wire as they shot out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back in the win.

The Griffith twins led LMU as Emily and Rachel each scored 17 points, while Kai Wesemann came off the bench to lead all players in rebounds with nine.

Prior to the game, the staff will honor Emily Griffith, Rachel Griffith, Dasia Maxwell, Sydney Duggins and Kai Wesemann for their contributions to the program. The Griffiths and Maxwell are four-year seniors; Wesemann transferred to LMU from junior college to play volleyball and walked on to the basketball team; while Duggins, who is technically a junior, has been accepted into Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy school and will forgo her senior season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
· LMU leads in the series 14-12 and have won 10 of the last 12 meetings. They are 10-3 against the Catawba Indians in the Turner Arena, with the last win in Harrogate by Catawba coming on Mar. 2, 2013.

· In their last meeting, on Jan. 16 in Mars Hill, the Lions kept hanging around despite several LMU runs and eventually cut the lead to 75-70 with six seconds remaining, but LMU hit a free throw late to seal the 76-70 win. Emily Griffith had another 20-plus point performance for LMU as she led all scorers with 25 points. She also had eight rebounds and five assists. Twin sister Rachel Griffith scored 18 points, while Maggie Jachimczuk had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

· In their last meeting in Harrogate, in the SAC Tournament quarterfinal on Feb. 28, 2018, LMU never trailed but also could not put away Catawba as LMU used a pair of baskets from Shea Coker to pull away late for the 76-67 win. Coker led LMU with 16 points in her final appearance in the Tex Turner Arena, while Dasia Maxwell and Jordan Brightwell each had 14 points. Emily Griffith chipped in 10 points. Brianna Hodges led Catawba with 18 points, and Serena Brown had 16.
 
SCOUTING CATAWBA
· The Catawba Indians come into the game with a 13-11 overall record and an 8-9 SAC record.

· Taisha DeShazo leads Catawba in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.3 points and 6.9 rebounds a game. She ranks seventh in the SAC in rebounding.

· Talia Barnes is averaging 12.0 points a game and is second on the team in scoring.

· Madison Hallman leads the team in steals with 2.1 a game and is third in scoring with a 10.2 points a game average.

· As a team, Catawba are outscoring their opponents by a 67.3-to-65.7 points per game margin and are narrowly out-rebounding opponents by +0.9 a game. They are forcing their opponents to commit 21.1 turnovers a game.
 
SCOUTING LMU
· Head Coach Krystal Evans is in her fifth season at LMU. She has a 91-54 overall record.
 
· Emily Griffith and her twin sister Rachel currently lead the team in scoring, with Emily edging out Rachel 16.7 points a game to 14.3. In the SAC, Emily ranks fourth in scoring and points per game, fifth in assists, and third in made field goals while Rachel is eighth in scoring, sixth in assists and assist to turnover ratio, ninth in steals, and third in made free throws. Sydney Newsome has 8.3 points a game, while Lindsay Proffitt and Dasia Maxwell have 6.8.
 
· Rebounding is a team effort this season as Newsome leads the team in rebounds with 5.3 a game, followed closely by Maggie Jachimczuk's 5.2 per game average. Dasia Maxwell (4.1) and Emily Griffith (4.0 per game) are not far behind while Addi Kirkpatrick has a 3.6 rebounds a game average.  
 
· Emily Griffith leads the team with 3.6 assists a game, followed closely by Rachel with 3.2.

· The twins are also identical in steals, with Rachel and Emily averaging 1.8 steals a game apiece. Newsome and Maxwell have 1.3 a game each.
 
· LMU has three of the top 18 three-point shooters in the SAC, as Sydney Duggins and Lindsay Proffitt co-lead the SAC with 43.4 percent. The two have flip-flopped first and second in the conference for most of the season, and now have finally tied for the first time. Rachel Griffith is 18th.
 
· As a team, LMU is averaging 75.1 points a game while holding opponents to 71.8. They are out-rebounding opponents by a margin of +5.4 a game.
