Quick Hits
-The Lady Railsplitters (10-2) will vie with the Trojans before playing three straight doubleheaders beginning Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m., on their home turf, facing Rochester College and the University of Virginia-Wise, respectively. LMU will cap off the long week with a trip to Lees-McRae College for a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
-LMU comes into the matchup, winning the last nine of 10 games after splitting a doubleheader with No. 18-ranked Young Harris Sunday. Before the game one, 5-4, loss, the Lady Railsplitters had won eight straight and added the ninth in a shutout, 5-0, victory over the Mountain Lions in game No. 2.
-For the first time this season, Young Harris caught a Lady Railsplitter stealing, but LMU still has stolen a whopping 17 of 18 bases. Freshman
Sierra Hucklebee stole two against the Mountain Lions to keep her a perfect 6-for-6 on the young season.
-In the batter's box, junior
Ty-Kella Goins continues to lead the way with a .500 batting average and .929 slugging percentage plus a team-high 42 at-bats, 21 hits, 22 runs, six doubles, three triples and a second-best two home runs. She is also perfect on the bases (4-for-4).
-Freshman
McKenzie Henry smacked her third home run of the year — a team high — in the narrow game one loss, while she continues to have a team-high in RBI (15) and is second with
Audrey Petoskey in doubles (5). Hucklebee is the next best with 13 RBI, while senior
Kelsie Hocutt has 12, Goins (11) and Petoskey (10).
-With 11 or more appearances, sophomore
Emma Webb is second on the team with a .441 batting average — just ahead of Henry's .425 in six more at-bats (40) and all 12 starts — and is in a three-way tie for third in doubles (4), along with Hucklebee and
Grace Cochran.
-As a team, the Lady Railsplitters are batting .359 with 110 hits in 306 at-bats and 103 runs. LMU has connected on 36 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 90 RBI through 12 games.
-
Justice Smith kept her perfect season in the circle going Sunday with her third win (3-0) and a shutout, pushing down her ERA to 2.26 through 26.2 innings. Freshman
Bailey Griffith (5-1) suffered her first loss, but she tossed a career-high nine strikeouts for a team-high 23 on the season. She now has a 2.68 ERA through 34 IP.
Know the Opponent
-Unlike the Lady Railsplitters, who had a home-heavy schedule to start the season, Trevecca (4-3) is home for the first time as LMU comes to town. However, the Trojans were close, playing in the Music City Invitational just outside of Nashville in Hendersonville, Tenn., Feb. 15-16, finishing 2-1.
-The Trojans began the year with a doubleheader loss to Young Harris — the same team the Lady Railsplitter split with Sunday — before winning four out of the next six. Of those four wins, Trevecca hasn't scored less than eight runs with a max of 13 versus Rockhurst University.
-In all seven starts, MaKray Odom is pacing the Trojans behind her fiery .633 batting average, 19 hits in 30 at-bats, scoring 10 runs and stealing a perfect 8 of 8 bases. Lenna Robinson, who has a .545 batting average, is second on the team with five stolen bases (5-for-5), while Cali Norrod has one to make the Trojans a perfect 14-for-14 on the season.
-Mary Collins' six starts feature a .647 batting average, going 11-for-17 in the batter's box with seven runs scored, a second-best RBI (10), doubles (3) and the most triples (1) and home runs (3).
-The Trojans are paced by Savannah Carr (2.52 ERA, 16.2 IP) and Raygn Hall (4.74, 20.2 IP) in the circle. Carr has a team-high 21 strikeouts while Hall has 18.
