SALISBURY, N.C. – The LMU women's tennis team opened South Atlantic Conference play with a win as they defeated Catawba 5-2 Monday afternoon.
LMU (7-3, 1-0 SAC) picked up the doubles win and wins at 3-6 singles to claim the win.
In doubles, Catawba's Lauren Laughton and Olivia Woolridge defeated
Kiersten Waugh and
Amanda Dahlstrom 6-3 at the third spot.
Julia Valls and
Julia Loos won 6-3 over Una Pandurevic and Sophie Hirsch in the second spot to improve to 9-1 on the season and at the first flight
Johanna Delisse and
Kristin Vogel improved to 5-3 this season with their 6-4 win over Erisa Onchi and Carolina Correia.
Onchi then defeated Delisse 6-2, 6-0 at the first spot to tie the match at 1-1, but Valls picked up the 6-3, 6-4 win over Pandurevic to give LMU the 2-1 lead. Vogel picked up the 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 three-set win at no. 5 over Woolridge and Loos won 6-4, 6-3 over Correia at no. 4 to give LMU the overall victory.
Hirsch then picked up the 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 win over LMU's
Marta Pinol and Dahlstrom defeated Laughton 6-2, 7-5 to end the match as LMU picked up the 5-2 win.
The Lady Railsplitters host Carson-Newman in a SAC match Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Complex.
