Railsplitters hit four home runs to hammer Bears 13-4 in series opener

HICKORY, N.C. – Tyler Adams, Will Reddick, Seth Hunt and Dalton Dedas all homered to lead the Railsplitters in a dominant 13-4 win over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in the opener of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series on Friday night in Hickory, N.C.

Lincoln Memorial (17-8, 8-2 SAC) scored in six of the first seven innings and received a solid start from ace Ethan Elliott to capture its sixth consecutive win. The Railsplitters also scored double-digit runs for the fourth time in their last six games to improve to 13-3 in the last 16 games against Lenoir-Rhyne (11-13, 4-6 SAC).

The Railsplitters and Bears both finished with nine hits apiece, but Lincoln Memorial made the most of its hits, racking up five extra-base knocks, including four home runs. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, had just two extra-base hits.

Hunt homered for the fourth time in his last five games as part of a 2-for-5 day that included five RBI and a walk. Dedas hit his second home run of the season, drew three walks, drove in two runs and scored three times, while Reddick homered for the third time in his last five games. Adams connected on his second home run of the season, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Nate Stinson also added a pair of hits with a double, extending his streak of games consecutively reaching base to 25, while Chris Salvey had an RBI, a hit and a walk.

Elliott moved to 5-2 on the season after allowing just five hits and two runs while striking out eight across 6.0 innings of work. Joe Bobiak and Joe Faulkner also provided an inning of scoreless relief apiece.

Adams propelled the Railsplitters out to an early 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning, which scored Dedas after he drew a one-out walk.

Reddick's leadoff homer in the top of the second increased the lead to 3-0, while back-to-back RBI singles from Adams and Salvey in the next inning pushed it to 5-0. The Railsplitters added another run in the third via an error by the L-R second baseman.

Lincoln Memorial kept the line moving in the fourth, as Henry Moore walked and Alex Allen was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Hunt, who drove them both home with a single to make it an 8-0 game.

E.J. Ranel put the Bears on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run, but the Railsplitters responded with Dedas' two-run homer in the sixth and Hunt's three-run bomb in the seventh to blow the game wide open.

Lenoir-Rhyne scraped for two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out, two-run single from Zack Shoemaker. That was the extent of the offensive output for the Bears, though, as Faulkner worked a three-up, three-down bottom of the ninth with two strikeouts.

Hunter Jackson was the only player for L-R with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Aside from Ranel's homer, Aaron Stamper had the only other extra-base hit of the game for the Bears with a pinch-hit double.

Nolan Flachofsky took the loss for Lenoir-Rhyne, falling to 5-5 on the season after lasting just two innings. Flachofsky gave up four hits, five earned runs and two walks over that span.

The Railsplitters will complete their series at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
