NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After being limited to just six singles in the series finale against Catawba this past weekend, the Railsplitters took out their frustrations on Trevecca on Tuesday afternoon at Jackson Field, unleashing 17 hits, including seven extra-base knocks, in a 17-9 shellacking.
Ten different players contributed at least one hit for Lincoln Memorial (12-8), which beat Trevecca (5-7) for the first time since February 2001 to kick-off a four-game road trip.
Seth Hunt went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while
Henry Moore reached in all six of his plate appearances with three singles, three walks, three RBI and three runs scored.
Tyler Adams homered and drove in five runs, while
Nate Stinson,
Tanner Head and
Will Reddick all had two hits apiece and combined for four doubles.
Alex Allen drove in two runs and scored twice.
Joe Bobiak picked up the win after limiting Trevecca to one hit and no runs over 3.2 innings of relief work. The senior lefty struck out two and walked one to move to 2-0 on the season.
Ben Wiley made the start, but was awarded a no decision after giving up six runs and six hits over 3.1 innings.
Seven different Trevecca pitchers took a go at slowing down the LMU attack, but none lasted more than three innings.
The Trojans were in control early after a pair of two-run doubles staked the home team to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first.
The Railsplitters clapped back in the top half of the second inning, using RBI singles from Moore and Hunt along with a sac fly by Adams to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Lincoln Memorial then took the lead in the top of the third, plating the tying run with a double by Reddick, which scored Head after he doubled the batter before. Reddick later scored on a single from Hunt to put the Railsplitters in the lead, 5-4.
A run-scoring wild pitch and an RBI single put Trevecca back in front 6-5 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Railsplitters broke the game wide open after that.
In the top of the fifth, Lincoln Memorial took the lead for good thanks to a sac fly by Hunt and an error by the Trevecca second baseman.
The Railsplitters then piled on seven runs in the top of the sixth. A single by Stinson and walks to Head and Reddick sparked the rally. Moore drove in the first run of the inning with a single, while Allen plated two more with a double down the right-field line.
After a fly out put the first out of the inning on the board,
Dalton Dedas walked to load the bases for Adams, who brought them all home with an opposite field grand slam, putting the Railsplitters in front 14-6.
RBI by
Joe Stucky, Head and Moore brought three more runs home for the Railsplitters in the top of the eighth.
After being held scoreless in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings, Trevecca finally conjured up a bit more offense with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, plating two runs with a triple and another with a double to cut the final margin to 17-9.
The win was head coach
Jeff Sziksai's first over his former assistant coach Ryan Schmalz in three tries.
The Railsplitters are back in action on Friday when they begin a three-game South Atlantic Conference series at Carson-Newman with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
