HARROGATE, Tenn. – LMU closed out the regular season with the 7-0 Senior Day win over Newberry Saturday afternoon in the LMU Indoor Facility. With the win, they improve to 11-8 on the season and 5-5 in South Atlantic Conference play.
Julia Loos and
Julia Valls improved to 14-4 on the season with their 6-1 win over Lucy Spice and Frederike Klein in the second doubles spot, while
Kristin Vogel and
Samantha Hogan won 6-3 over Lucia Davila and Amy Griffiths to claim the match doubles point. In the first flight, Newberry's Elisa Aguirre and Marta Gomar won over
Johanna Delisse and
Kiersten Waugh 7-5.
The Lady Railsplitters dominated the singles flights to claim the sweep.
Loos got things going as she picked up her 16th win of the season and the 42nd of her career as she downed Gomar 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth flight.
Amanda Dahlstrom then claimed the 6-4, 6-0 win over Davila in the sixth spot.
LMU's lone senior
Marta Pinol made the match score 4-0 with her three-set 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Spice in the second flight. The win improves her season total to 11-7 and her career record to 54-26, which ties her for fifth in program history.
Valls then got in on the action as she improved to 13-8 with the 6-3, 6-0 win over Griffiths in the three spot, while Delisse grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Klein in the first flight.
Vogel completed the sweep with the 8-3 win over Melissa Conwell in the fifth spot.
The Lady Railsplitters have clinched a berth in next week's SAC Tournament and will now await the announcement of the tournament seeds later this weekend.
