HARROGATE, Tenn. — Lenoir-Rhyne used an explosive offensive attack and lockdown defense to hand the Lincoln Memorial women's lacrosse team its third straight loss on Saturday at the LMU Lacrosse Complex, 17-4.
The Bears (8-5, 4-1 SAC) came into the game with a 7-5 record, but four of their losses came against nationally-ranked teams. LMU, which is battling for a home quarterfinal game in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Championship, drops to 9-5 on the season and 3-3 in SAC play with the loss.
L-R left little doubt that it would control the game from the opening draw. The Bears scored the first goal of the game after only 18 seconds of play. LMU tied the game on a
Rachel Gardner goal at the 28:45 mark, but then it was all Lenoir-Rhyne as they ran off 16 straight goals to leave the Lady Railsplitters in the dust.
Alyssa Sack led the onslaught for L-R with six goals and two assists while Gia Colombo added four tallies and leading scorer Rachel Elmore put in two goals to increase her season total to 37.
For the second straight game, LMU lost the statistical battle. L-R had the advantage in shots 28-11, shots on goal 23-9, groundballs 23-15, turnovers 21-14, and had a 6-1 advantage in free position shots, converting four of the opportunities into goals.
LMU was again unable to mount much of an offensive attack until just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Amara Moss,
Jasmin Click and
Erin DePaul scored goals to produce the final result.
The next two games for the Lady Railsplitters will be against SAC opponents Tusculum and Newberry, both on the road. LMU will visit Tusculum on Wednesday and close out regular-season SAC play next Saturday at Newberry.
