HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer fell short, 3-1, to No. 4 Young Harris College on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Young Harris' Anthony Gimenes scored in the first 1:48 of action on Saturday afternoon to take a quick lead over the Railsplitters. The Mountain Lions tacked on another goal in the 24th minute of action.
The Railsplitters stayed in contention when freshman midfielder
Sonnie Mathis notched his first goal with a pass from senior forward
Matteo Bufalo to cut the deficit to one in the 40th minute of the first stanza.
After 20 minutes of play through the second leg of the contest, Christian Kirchhoff of Young Harris College notched another goal to give the Mountain Lions a 3-1 advantage over the hosting Railsplitters.
Today's visit from Young Harris was the third time a top-five ranked opponent in NCAA Division II men's soccer visited Harrogate to compete against LMU.
TEAM STATS:
LMU trailed in shots (13-3), shots on goal (5-1) and corners (2-1) throughout the matchup on Saturday. Young Harris took the edge in foul play with 19 total on the afternoon.
THE KEEPERS:
YHC – Alex Iglesias didn't record any saves this afternoon as he let in his first goal of the season against the Railsplitters.
LMU – Robbin Herrmann steered away a pair of shots with three goals against on Saturday.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
After today's square off, the all-time record between the Railsplitters and Mountain Lions is tied, 3-3, dating back to their first matchup in October of 2010.
