HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer had three second half goals to take a 3-1 victory over Shaw University on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Shaw University got on the board first this afternoon in Harrogate against the hosting Railsplitters. Paulo Filho netted a goal with an assist from Andrew Camilo (23') to take a 1-0 lead.
Graduate forward
Aurochit Patnaik notched a goal with an assist from senior forward
Ueslei Silva within the first two minutes of the second half (46') to eliminate the deficit to the Bears.
Just over 20 minutes later, Silva further tacked on another goal with an assist from sophomore midfielder
Danilo Seglio (66').
To cap off the contest,
Matteo Bufalo struck the back of the net for the first time this season with one-touch pass from freshman midfielder
Aimar Samaniego to give the Railsplitters a 3-1 lead.
SPLITTING TIME:
Today, 19 members of the Blue and Gray played against Shaw University. All of the field players besides two, clocked in for under 70 minutes throughout the contest.
In addition, Coach Spain has dived deep into his mercenaries as seven freshman started today's matchup at the LMU Soccer Complex.
SOLVING PROBLEMS:
Spain added, "Teams are going to learn about us and force us to solve problems in different ways. We were really slow at solving problems in the first half today and we got hurt by it."
"We were able to finally change what we wanted to do in the second half, but I feel as if we wasted 45 minutes. Anytime you play at home, you want to start well, and we failed to do that," continued Spain.
Spain concluded, "Wingate is going to be good," in reference to the Railsplitters conference matchup against Wingate this Saturday. Wingate is currently receiving votes for NCAA Division II top-25 rankings.
TEAM STATS:
The Railsplitters led in shots (12-1), shots on goal (9-1), corner kicks (2-1) and assists (3-1) throughout the game.
THE KEEPERS:
SHAW – Georgious Petousis tallied three saves in the first half of play, allowing zero goals. Denis Begovic took over the second stanza of action, allowing three goals and acquiring three saves.
LMU – Redshirt freshman
Jackson Jalovec made his first appearance in-between the pipes allowing a lone goal in his first win for the Railsplitters.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
After today's inaugural meeting, LMU will begin with a 1-0 mark against the Shaw University Bears.
