Lady Railsplitters suffer 2-0 setback at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. — Tough day.

There were some chances for the Lincoln Memorial University women's soccer team Saturday, but the Lady Railsplitters were unable to push any of them through as they suffered a South Atlantic Conference, 2-0, setback in Wingate, N.C.

Notably, LMU (6-2, 1-2 SAC) came oh so close to scoring before the scoreless first half concluded when an Ermelinda Pantaleao shot hit off the post and was cleared by the goalkeeper in the 44th minute.

Just before that, LMU goalkeeper Emanuely Costa used one of her six saves in diving fashion, swatting away an almost goal in the top, right corner. Overall, the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-0) outshot the Lady Railsplitters 12-4 with nine of those coming in the second half, where the two goals — both from Taylor Krakower — came in the 64th and 71st minute, respectively.

Again, the Lady Railsplitters came within inches of scoring just before Wingate did as Rachel Taylor collided with Abbey Frail in goal, but the ball tailed just right to keep LMU off the board.

Up Next: The Lady Railsplitters will have a much-needed week off before Lenoir-Rhyne, who is undefeated ahead of the Bears' match against Queens, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.
