DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Lincoln Memorial University's
Ueslei Silva forced an double-overtime,1-1, stalemate finish against University of North Georgia in their regular-season opener on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
North Georgia's Jack Newhouse got the first score of the match within the first 30 minutes. LMU had a few opportunities after the beginning notch before the opening half ended.
The Railsplitters' struck six shots before senior forward
Ueslei Silva answered with a shot off the post 18 minutes into the second stanza of the contest. After the tying goal, LMU had an advantage in shots (6-2) over the Nighthawks throughout the rest of regulation.
In the first leg of overtime, both teams had a pair of shots for a chance to end the game but ultimately strayed to an additional overtime period where the Railsplitters and UNG finished with a tied score of 1-1.
TEAM STATS:
The visiting Railsplitters took the advantage in shots (21-14), shots on goal (8-5) and corner kicks (10-4).
THE KEEPERS:
UNG – Conner Domaleski steered away seven shots on the evening
LMU – Robbin Herrmann saved four shots that came his way in his first start for the Railsplitters.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Today marks the first tie in the history between the Railsplitters and Nighthawks. Before tonight, LMU carried a four-game winning streak.
