HARROGATE, Tenn. – LMU never trailed as they used a first quarter run to pull out to a double-digit lead and never look back as they downed Mars Hill 76-47 Wednesday evening in the Tex Turner Arena.
The Lady
Railsplitters are now 6-7 overall and 5-4 in SAC play, while the Lions fall to 2-13 overall and 0-9 in the SAC with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Sydney Newsome got the ball rolling for LMU as she scored the first five Lady Railsplitter points of the game and had eight of her 12 points in the opening stanza.
•
MHU tied the game at 2-2 and 4-4 before a Newsome free throw sparked a 15-4 run over the rest of the quarter.
• Lindsay Proffitt had 12 second quarter points, all three-pointers, as she sparked another run that broke open the game early in the quarter. She almost single-handedly outscored the Lions in the first half as LMU held a 46-15 advantage at halftime.
• The Lady Railsplitters extended the lead to 61-22 at the end of the third quarter as they held MHU to only one field goal in the quarter.
• Mars Hill heated up offensively in the final period, shooting 62.5 percent for the quarter and outscoring LMU 25-15, but it was too little, too late.
KEY PLAYERS/STATS
•
Lindsay Proffitt's team high 20 points were three short of her career high. Her six three-pointers tie her career high in that category.
• Sydney Newsome flirted with her first career double-double as she scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
• Shermeria Quarles had 11 points and four rebounds.
• Lauren Flowers led all players with five assists.
• Grace Day and Jordan Maney each had two blocks.
• Tatum Boggs led the Lions with a game high 21 points, while De'Ja Marshall had five rebounds.
• For the game, LMU shot 50.8 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from behind the arc, and 57.1 percent from the charity stripe.
• The Lions shot 34.0 percent from the field, 25.0 percent from three-point range and 64.3 percent from the free throw line.
• LMU's 22 rebound advantage (45-23) was their largest margin in rebounding since they out-rebounded UVA Wise by 28 last season.
• Despite having fewer players, LMU's bench out-scored MHU's 41-13.
• LMU now leads the all-time series 22-11 and are 12-4 against the Lions in Harrogate.

LMU will hit the road for a two-game SAC road swing as they travel to #16/22 Anderson on Saturday and Tusculum next Wednesday. Anderson are now 13-2 overall and 8-1 in SAC play on the season following a 36 point trouncing of Coker earlier tonight. The Trojans are ranked 16th in the WBCA Coaches' Poll and 22nd in the D2SIDA National Media Poll.
