HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coming off an impressive season-opening win over Newberry to open head coach
Devan Carter's Railsplitter tenure, the Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball team traveled to Coker Tuesday evening and came away with a 68-55 victory to move to 2-0 (2-0 SAC) on the season.
LMU had a balanced scoring effort as five players scored in double figures.
Lauren Flowers recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, while
Maggie Jachimczuk matched her with 15 points.
Jordan Maney recorded a career-high 13 points with six rebounds and four steals,
Lindsay Proffitt made three three pointers and scored 11, and
Lexi Kiser chipped in 10 with a career-high tying five steals.
Although Coker started the game off by scoring the first two baskets, the Lady Railsplitters fought back and took the lead on a Kiser three pointer and two Jachimczuk free throws. After both teams went back and forth, a Flowers layup and an
Addi Kirkpatrick free throw gave LMU a 12-7 lead after the first period.
The second quarter saw the Cobras score two quick baskets once again to draw within one, but the Lady Railsplitters went on a 6-0 run with Maney as the catalyst. She stole the ball, which led to a Flowers layup, and then scored two baskets of her own to extend the lead. After four points by Coker, Maney then hit a three pointer to keep the lead at six before a Proffitt three pointer and a
Grace Day layup extended the lead to double digits. The Cobras scored the last six points of the half to cut the lead to 26-21 at the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Cobras went on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 28, but Proffitt hit another three pointer to give the Lady Railsplitters the lead. A Flowers basket and Proffitt's third three pointer gave LMU a six point lead, but Coker simply would not go away. Another basket cut the lead to four, but the lead expanded to 11 points on two Proffitt free throws. The Cobras once again cut into the lead, but the Lady Railsplitters were up by eight going into the final stanza.
The teams once again see-sawed back and forth before a Flowers layup gave LMU a 56-46 lead halfway through the period. Coker's last-gasp effort closed them to within five, but the Lady Railsplitters cruised down the stretch as they went on a 12-4 run to clinch the victory.
