BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's lacrosse program tallied multiple three-plus-goal runs to zip past the University of Montevallo Falcons on Saturday afternoon at William Stadium located at Union College.
LADY RAILSPLITTER RUNDOWN:
Sophomore midfielder Avery Van der Ziel and freshman attack Ali Van der Ziel got the goals going early when they each marked a goal apiece to take a 2-0 lead in under the first two minutes of play. Within the next five minutes, junior attack
Erin DePaul and junior attack
Rachel Gardner tacked on two more goals in the span of 44 seconds to increase the margin to 4-1.

Kennedy Buechner and Ali Van der Ziel then went on a 4-0 run over an eight-minute span. The Lady Railsplitters followed with another three-goal run by Avery Van der Ziel, Gardner converting on a shorthanded-fastbreak goal and Ali Van der Ziel to extend the lead to 11-4 from the end of the first half through the beginning minutes of the second.
Buechner tacked on two more unassisted, back-to-back goals to increase the score to 13-5 with just shy of 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Lady Railsplitters capped off their scoring extravaganza with one final three-goal run from Gardner, sophomore attack
Sierra Landsman and Csenar. Montevallo attempted to push back with three successful strikes but ultimately falling short, 16-9.
THE KEEPERS:
MTVL – Kay Tirrell (L) clocked 30 minutes in goal for the Falcons after allowing nine goals and marking three saves. Rachel Rose then took the place in between the pipes for the next 20 minutes, allowing four goals and notching a pair of saves. Miranda Laird was the last keeper to take the field for the afternoon for the final 9:42 allowing three goals.
LMU – Junior
Micayla Starnes caught her second win of the season after spending the Saturday afternoon in net, totaling five saves and nine goals against.
TEAM STATS:
The Lady Railsplitters led the way in shots (31-17), successful clears (19-17) and ground balls (17-8).
INAUGURAL MEETING:
Today's contest in Barbourville, Kentucky, marks the first-ever meeting between the Falcons and the Lady Railsplitters.
