HARROGATE, Tenn. – A layup and free throw by
Addi Kirkpatrick mid-way through the first quarter sparked a LMU run that they never looked back from as they used 11 three-pointers to coast past Wingate 66-58 Saturday afternoon in the Tex Turner Arena.
The Lady
Railsplitters are now 8-12 overall and 7-9 in SAC play with the win. It was LMU's first season sweep of Wingate since they won both meetings in the 2013-14 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wingate scored a three-pointer to open the game before back to back three-pointers from
Maggie Jachimczuk and
Lindsay Proffitt put the Blue and Gray up 6-3.
• The Bulldogs would re-take a 14-13 lead on a Hanna Clark three-pointer before
Addi Kirkpatrick hit a layup and was fouled, converting the old-fashioned three-point play. LMU would lead at the end of the quarter 18-16.
• LMU opened up the second quarter on a 6-2 run and while Wingate was able to cut the lead to 29-27 late, a
Lauren Flowers trey put the Lady Railsplitters ahead by five, which was the margin at the half.
• Three-pointers by Flowers and Proffitt put the Lady Railsplitters ahead by 10 point, 40-30, with 7:39 left in the third quarter. They would never lead by less than double-digits the remainder of the stanza.
• Wingate would make several small runs in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to three points on three occasions.
• Each time, however, LMU had the answer and the team would go 9-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
