AUSTIN, Texas – Tyler Adams of Lincoln Memorial University's baseball team has been named to the 2020 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America
® Division II Third Team, announced by the organization Wednesday afternoon. Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom, the CoSIDA Academic All-America
® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA.
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during the COVID-19 global pandemic, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America
® awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
Starring on the Railsplitters' infield over the last four years, Adams is an exemplary student-athlete as a three-time All-South Atlantic Conference and three-time all-region selection. The standout shortstop has hit .344 across four seasons, owning a .579 slugging percentage and .442 on-base percentage for his career. The first week of May, Adams attained his Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science after recording a 3.49 cumulative grade point average while donning the LMU jersey.
The Woodstock, Georgia (Etowah HS), native is the Railsplitters' all-time leader in doubles (52) and is ranked in the top five in program history in home runs (28), RBI (145), runs scored (158), hits (206) and total bases (346). He was an All-SAC First Team pick as a third baseman in 2019 and earned first-team recognition as a true freshman shortstop in 2017. With LMU's 2020 campaign cut short due to COVID-19, Adams will return for his final season of eligibility next spring.
The fourth Railsplitter baseball student-athlete to land a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America
® Teams, Adams joins outfielder
Seth Hunt (2019), pitcher
Ethan Elliott (2019) and outfielder
Logan Augustine (2016/2017).
