LMU Men's Soccer Drops One to Carson-Newman

Railsplitters put six shots on goal, but unable to find the back of the net

HARROGATE, TENN. – Facing one of the best teams in the conference, Lincoln Memorial men's soccer knew it was going to be a challenge today. They battled Carson-Newman all afternoon long, but ultimately fell to the second-place SAC team 4-0.

The first half of play was a battle between the two teams, as neither could get much going offensively for much of the half. LMU put up four first half shots, all of which were on goal, but were unable to get any past the keeper. The Eagles put up 13 shots, with five on goal, including the go-ahead goal in the 26th minute, to take the 1-0 lead into the break.

The second half did not go as planned for the Railsplitters, as Carson-Newman took control of the game and never relinquished it. They added three more goals in the second half, one in the 66th minute, another in the 74th, and the final goal was scored in the 86th minute of play.

The Railsplitter offense couldn't muster any support for the defense, only putting up three more shots in the second 45 minutes of play, with two of those being on goal.

There were several good chances for LMU to get on the board, as they attempted five corner kicks throughout the game, but the Carson-Newman defense was able to hold them out of the net.

Diego Alvarado led the LMU offense putting up two shots, including one on goal. Five other Railsplitters also put one shot on goal in the game.

Goalkeeper Jackson Jalovec once again got the start in net, racking up seven saves, and fending off an Eagle attack which put up 24 shots.

The win keeps Carson-Newman second in SAC standings behind first-place Limestone with only four conference games left to play.
