HICKORY, N.C. – It was another tough game for the Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team as they fell to Lenoir-Rhyne 4-1 in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday night.
The Bears offense was in attack mode all night, barraging the Railsplitter defense with 33 total shots, and putting 13 on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Robin Hermann collected nine more saves, but was unable to hold the Bears offense at bay.
LMU kept it close in the first half, as Lenoir-Rhyne only lead 1-0 after the first 45 minutes, but they started the second half hot, scoring two goals in the first 25 minutes to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Railsplitters would cut into that lead in the 70
th minute, as
Shanden Vergara scored on a free-kick off a Bear penalty in the box. It was Vergara's second goal of the year, good enough for second on the team.
That was as close as Lincoln Memorial would get though, as Lenoir-Rhyne added a late goal to bring their lead back up to three.
Vergara was the main force on offense for LMU, as he put two shots on goal as part of his two-point effort.
Up Next
The Railsplitters return home on Tuesday, October 5 to take on Lee in a nonconference contest, before taking on Wingate on Saturday, October 9 as part of the Homecoming festivities.
