MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's volleyball program dropped a five-set thriller to Augusta in game one of the day but rebounded and took a four-set victory over host Georgia College on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 – Augusta 3, LMU 2
Ketura Margaret paced the Lady Railsplitters in game one hitting .250 with 12 kills and added 10 digs for her second straight double-double. Senior
Emily Walter tallied a double-double in the contest as she posted 16 assists and 10 digs. Libero
Sevgi Koyuncu continued to be dominate on the defensive end as she recorded 25 digs.
The Splitters took the first point of the match, but Augusta was able to take the lead with a eight-point run to make it 10-3. Pushing their lead to 17-6, the Jaguars were able to keep Lincoln Memorial off the offensive board as Augusta took the first set, 25-12.
The Lady Railsplitters came out on fire to begin the second set as they used a five-point run to take a 8-4 lead. The Jaguars responded right back with their own five-point run to take a 9-8 lead. Trading points until Augusta was able to create some separation to make it 21-18, but the Lady Railsplitters were not done as they pushed the score to 24-24 but the Jaguars were able to close out the set, 26-24.
Keeping the match close, the third set saw another back-and-forth battle before Lincoln Memorial was able to create some separation late in the set, 19-16. The Lady Railsplitters then used a three-point run to make it set point, and took the second set, 25-23, as the Jaguar serve went long to end the set.
Augusta opened the fourth set with a 4-1 lead, but Lincoln Memorial was able to keep the score close, 6-6. The Jaguars were able to take a 12-7 lead after a four-point run. The Lady Railsplitters were able to take control of the set after a seven-point run to make it 18-15 LMU. Lincoln Memorial was able to maintain the lead and captured the fourth set, 25-21.
The Jaguars were able to take a 6-4 lead into a LMU timeout to begin the fifth set. Augusta continued to push their lead as they went onto capture the fifth set, and match, 15-9.
Game 2 – LMU 3, Georgia College 1
Three Splitters tallied double-digit kills with Maragret leading the charge with 11 kills while
Kristen Moehring and
Sierrah Lemons both added 10 kills each. Walter tallied her second straight double-double as she added 22 assists and 12 digs in the match.
Georgia College jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first set, but the Lady Railsplitters were able to pull it to within two at, 9-7. The Bobcats then used a five-point run to take a 14-7 lead. Trading points until the Bobcats were able to take a 24-21 lead, but the Splitters were not done as they pushed the first set to extra time, but Georgia College captured the first set, 26-24.
The Lady Railsplitters took an early 3-2 lead, but the Bobcats evened things up at 6 all. Georgia College and the Lady Splitters battled back-and-forth before a five-point run by LMU gave them a 23-19 lead. The Bobcats did not go away quietly as they battled back to push the score in their favor, 26-25. The Lady Railsplitters then rattled off three straight kills to take the second set, 28-26.
Coming into the third set, Lincoln Memorial took a 6-1 lead before Georgia College was able to claw their way back to even things up at 9-9. The Lady Railsplitters then retook the lead and used a five-point run to create separation and ultimately never gave up the lead and went onto capture the third set, 25-20.
The opening of the fourth was all Lincoln Memorial as the Splitters jumped out to a 7-3 lead. The Bobcats were able to pull to within one, but the Lady Railsplitters were able to halt the assault for a moment. Georgia College was able to use a five-point run to take a 13-9 lead. Lincoln Memorial did not go away quietly as the Splitters used a seven-point run just moments later to take a 18-15 lead, and never gave that lead up as they went onto capture the match point, 25-17.
