HARROGATE, TENN. – Battling the heat, and a tough Wingate squad, the Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team gave it all that they could, but ultimately fell short, losing to the Bulldogs 2-0. The loss drops LMU to 1-8-2 on the year, and 0-5-1 in SAC competitions.
It was evenly match for the entire first 45 minutes of play, as neither team could do much offensively and the half ended tied at 0. Both teams put two shots on goal in the first half, while Wingate outshot LMU five to three overall in the half.
The Railsplitters had a chance late in the first half, but
Rodrigo Aguiar's penalty free kick went just high over the net, ending the LMU attack.
Making his second start of the year, goalkeeper
Jackson Jalovec put together another good performance. He saved five shots, and held off the Bulldog offense which put together 19 total shots throughout the game.
The game was scoreless for most of the second half, before Wingate broke through with a goal in the 76th minute. They would score again seven minutes later on a breakaway goal to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.
In addition to his penalty kick, Aguiar led the Railsplitter attack putting his second shot attempt on goal.
Kriton Kiousis also put a shot on goal that was blocked by the Bulldog keeper.
