Lady Railsplitters Fall in Road Contest at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball program (1-3, 0-2 SAC) traveled to Sac foe Wingate for a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, but fell to the Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 SAC), 66-48.

Wingate came out of the tip and controlled the first, never letting the Lady Railsplitters get their offense going as LMU tallied just eight points in the first frame as Wingate held a 18-8 lead going into the second period.

Within the first three minutes of the second period, the Bulldogs had kept their lead intact at 24-8, but an eight-point run by Lincoln Memorial brought the Wingate led to within single digits. Wingate was able to retake a double-digit lead just moments later and into the half, 35-24.

The third period got out to a back-and-forth battle before Wingate was able to take control of the period, increasing their lead to 54-32 before closing out the third period with a 56-34 lead.

The fourth period came out with Lincoln Memorial using a late surge, but it was not enough as Wingate was able to keep the defensive pressure up and take the contest, 66-48.

Junior Shaquala Walton led all LMU scorers with 11 points and finished the night shooting 5-for-11 from the field. Walton also added three rebounds and two steals to her line. Paint play came to be crucial in the contest and Wingate outscored the Lady Railsplitters in the paint, 34-22.
