Guest Double-Double Powers Railsplitters Past Catawba

Junior Jordan Guest tallied 23 points and 15 rebounds in the contest for his second-straight double-double in the victory over Catawba Tuesday night

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Behind a second consecutive double-double from junior Jordan Guest, the Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball program got back in the win column as they defeated the Catawba Indians inside Tex Turner Arena on Tuesday night, 93-77.

The Railsplitters (4-1, 2-1 SAC) controlled to ball early and often in the first half as the Blue and Gray took a 51-45 advantage into the half behind a last second three-pointer by Me'Kell Burries. Lincoln Memorial knocked down 51.6 percent of their fied goals while the Splitter defense allowed the Indians to shoot just 43 percent from the field. The Railsplitters went 10-for-30 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc, but the Indians kept the ball within the arc as they went 3-for-14 from three-point range.

Guest nearly posted a triple-double in the game as the California native tallied seven assists in the win leading the Railsplitter charge as Lincoln Memorial got the ball around with a total of 24 assists. Meanwhile for the Railsplitter defense, going to different setups tricked the Indian offense as they assisted just three times in the game.

Opening the scoring right out of the jump was freshman Jordan Walters putting the slam down before, just moments later, graduate Alex Dahling knocked down a three to put the Splitters up early. Catawba was able to quickly take the lead, but LMU had an answer for every basket the Indians made. Using a seven-point run, Catawba was able to take a small lead, but the Railsplitters rallied to retake the lead, and held onto the lead going into the half, 51-45.

The Railsplitters opened the second half by extending their lead, but Catawba got back to within two just moments later off a pair of free throws from Trevion Lamar. Lincoln Memorial saw their first double-digit lead of the game at the 14:52 mark on a jumper by redshirt sophomore Chase Rankin. It was at the 7:19 mark where Catawba went onto come the closest to regaining the lead as the Railsplitters used a 20-6 run to close out the win, 93-77.

Guest finished the night shooting 8-for-17 from the field including going 50 percent from beyond the arc. Rankin added 20 points while also finishing with eight assists and six rebounds in the win. Jordan Walters, Matthew Sells and Burries also tallied double-digit scoring with Walters picking up 15 points while Sells and Burries added 11 each.

The Indians were led by Caleb Robinson, who finished the night with 28 points and eight rebounds. Trevion Lamar also recorded eight rebounds in the contest.
