Box Score 2 HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial University men's and women's tennis teams got their 2021 seasons off to an excellent start as they swept Young Harris out of the Peach Belt Conference Friday afternoon at the Indoor Tennis Facility. The women won 7-0 and the men won 5-2.
The women got the match off to an excellent start as they won all three matches in doubles to take the early point and lead 1-0. In singles play,
Amanda Dahlstrom won at number five singles by a score of 6-0, 6-2 and
Kristin Vogel won 6-4, 6-3 at number three.
Julia Valls then clinched the match at number one with a similar 6-4, 6-3 win.
Johanna Delisse,
Valentina Ascarrunz, and
Mae Fitzgerald also won their season openers to contribute to the shutout.
On the men's side, the doubles point was closely contested. Although
Jake Tuchmann and
Luca Pavan won their match at number three by a score of 6-1, the Mountain Lions took the doubles point with wins in the other two matches.
Fabian Sjokvist then won his first-ever match at number one 6-3, 2-6 (11-9) to even the score. Freshman
Thom Hermans won 6-3, 6-2 at number three and
Nathan Cooper won his first match for LMU at number 5 by a score of 7-5, 6-2 to give the Railsplitters a 3-1 lead.
Jake Tuchmann then clinched the match with his 7-5, 6-1 win at number four. Pavan also contributed to the final outcome with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number six.
The men and women will be in action once again on Sunday with the women taking on the University of Charleston at 10 a.m. and both teams facing Bluefield State in the afternoon.
